Tail light and dash light both not working
I was riding back from work last night and noticed that my dash light was not working. I figured the bulb must have burnt out and put it on my to do list to check it when i got home. When I came to a red light after exiting the freeway, the car next to me told me my rear tail light was not working. Kind of freaked me out that I had ridden the whole time in the dark with no tail light. I got home and sure enough it was out. Does not light up even when using the brakes.
I'm not too familiar with the wiring, but from what I understand, the dash and tail lights are connected. I think the issue may have something to do with a set of screw bolt license plate lights I had previously installed on the bike, that I took off because the screws were not strong enough to secure the license plate. The wires were stripped as shown in the picture. These are really small incisions, but could this be causing the issue? And if so, will electric tape fix it? Thanks in advance for the help! |

You probably blew a fuse. You should tape, or splice out, the butchered wires, anyhow.

It is possible that during removal of those extra lights, a short happened and the 10 Amp fuse #4 blew up.
I would check that fuse first and then the integrity of those cut wires and finally tape those. The blue is for brake light only (+). It comes from both brake switches. The red is for tail light (+). It comes from the ignition switch. The black-yellow is ground (-). IT comes from the (-) of the battery. See the attached electric diagram.

Turns out that it was indeed a burnt out fuse. Swapped the bad one for a new one and now everthing is good! Thank you for the replies.
