ninja 500 engine in a 250 frame
Does any one know if the ninja 500 will fit in the 250 frame with minimal modifications?

minimal is very relative thing... if you spend most of the free time (when not on bike) in a garage and have propper tools, then it is easy.
If you are not experienced in such things, then dont do it yet. On other hand... that would be stupid thing to do. Why? Think about it |

Some ninja 500 / 250 swap threads:
The Ex 500 Engine swap with pics Custom 09 ninja 250 with ex 500 or 650r engine + others Unless someone has a free 250 and free 500 already in their garage, and unlimited free time, I don't see the point of the exercise. A new Honda 500 is $5K, as is a Ninja 300, both of which would outperform the frankenbike.

by minimal i meant just being able to modify the engine mounts and bolt it up. i'm capable of doing more but it ist really worth. i just thought of this as a solution to the worst case scenario that i have to replace the engine in my sisters 250. one cylinder had a broken rocker arm and has no compression. if i tear into it and its not worth fixing i thought of just replacing it with a 500 instead. which the more i think about it the more i realize it will likely involve purchasing other parts too like new carbs and new headers

already done this mod to my 2010 250r ive used the gpz500s motor been riding it for about 5 years i go touring all over europe on it every year it will beat any bike round the mountains watch the vid! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga84oLNg1WU (dont take to much notice of the rev counter its not accurate) and please dont leave comments on youtube about it being a 500 as the guys i go touring with still think its a 250!
upgrades running 140 rear tyre and brembo front brake conversion. just in the middle of fitting a 4.5 650r rear wheel with a 160 tyre. and will be fitting the 650r motor over the winter. and all the claims that the 500r motor will twist buckle the frame are rubbish! i highly recommend this upgrade you wont regret it!!! |

Probably best bang-for-buck speed upgrade.
3.0-sec faster 1/4-mile than new-gen 250 2.0-2.5s faster 1/4-mike than Ninja 300 1.5-2.0s faster 1/4-mile than CBR500R 1.0-1.5s faster 1/4-mike than Ninja 400 Along with shorter wheelbase than all of them makes for quite fun flickable bike! |

Here's one you posted in other thread. Did bodywork fit around engine without modifications?

A skunk hit my bottom so I leaked oil without knowing and now my engine knocks hard and loud.. I got every tool you can think of except a pipe bender lol, anyways some people say that the 500ex engine will mount right up since they share the same mounting brackets is this true? if not
how did you mount the ex500? any pics would help me brainstorm an idea of how I'm gonna attack the swap. I just made a new member post and I got my bike u0p on there hope you can take a look ! |

Nope, 250 engine is attached up by head. 500 engine is attached at lower crankcase. Custom mounts needed (30-minutes to cut & weld bar-stock, tubing will be lighter). If you look at picture above behind radiator, you can see the mount. It's flat bar-stock and bolts to engine just above water-pump (shiny bolt).
You'll also need to weld up custom exhaust. Looks like one above used factory header pipes combined into 2-1 custom exhaust with maggot muffler. |

Seriously at this point why would you even want a 500 engine in your 250? it's old, heavy, probably getting hard to find, and there's better options available.
