Carb Broken

Long story short the carb got cracked, and now the rubber diaphragm is not sitting properly due to the circle in which it sits in is missing an edge. Now when the engine is revved it sounds like there is an air leak ( a puff puff puff sound) which wasn't there before. I have the option for picking up a carb for $180 shipped, should I just buy it and put that one in?

So I bought the Carb from Ztrack. But heres a link to the sound I am talking about. I know its related to the carb, more specifically the right carb diaphragm not sitting right. Would this being ridden on hurt the engine?

Link to original page on YouTube.

The Sound can really be heard at around 17 and its like a puffing sound, the sound is typically enhanced when the bike is under load. Any Thoughts?

I apologize for not embedding it, I used the search but I don't think I was wording it right to find it.

I would say potentially yes, you could harm the engine riding it like this. 3 reasons:

1) Your engine is now running a lot more lean than it's designed to, and they're already almost too lean from the factory.

2) Add to that the fact that you're sucking in unfiltered air, so dirt and road crud is going straight to your combustion chamber...

3) Your pistons are now getting significantly different combustion ratios, so one of them is doing most of the work
Personally, I'd avoid riding it like that. You may be able to get away with it provided rides are very short, but is feeding the addiction worth possibly overheating and fubar'ing the engine? Up to you.

I replaced a diaphragm once and those things are expensive!

Agreed, get that thing fixed before you ride it.

we put the cap back on and sealed it, so hopefully its not sucking anything in. I believe its defiantly running lean. I don't think the engine is running that hot, the ambient temperature in Washington is pretty cold, so hopefully its not over heating.

Hopefully the carb will be today or tomorrow so I can change it out.
