these bikes suck compared to their 400cc ICE counterparts in terms of performance but it is a brilliant stroke from Kawasaki to engineer the electric drivetrains to drop right into their existing 400cc platforms

I'm not impressed by the stats but yeah, it's good to use the normal frame and powertrain as its base. My husband's Victory/Brammo e-bike has much more speed and much more range. Of course, Victory is out of business, but it's a nice bike.

I do like the light weight! And swappable battery packs makes it much, much more convenient to use!

LOL! In that old thread I said I wished it would have a battery that splits in two for easy handling and that ended up being exactly what it does. I wrongly assumed it wasn’t intended to be removed regularly but this makes perfect sense for city dwellers who need to carry the pack(s) up to their apartment to charge. Home building managers don’t start banning in-unit charging like some do for eBikes.

It’s that super basic Unitrak swingarm that sticks out like a sore thumb to me. I know these bikes have to be built to a certain cost but it’s the main thing I dislike about the EX250J, 300, and 400 styling. Something like the new GSX-8R or even the current Ninja 650 would suit it better.

Edit: Well, no idea why that show goer pulled their short clip of the Ninja 500 at the EICMA reveal event, but I’ll salvage this post with ADVRider’s take:
https://www.advrider.com/new-kawasaki-ninja-500-z500/

They say that it’s basically a refined version of the Ninja 400’s motor… and they haven’t announced a 2024 Ninja 400 in the US market yet so it’s like we just went from 250>300>400>500. The displacement creep is real, guys!

That said, Kawasaki Australia has announced a 2024 Ninja 400. Since the 300 and 400 didn’t replace the 250 in all markets and the 250 got the same generational styling changes in 2013 and 2018, it’s possible that some markets will get the bump to 500 and others will stay at 400.

IMO, the 250 and 500 coexisted for so long because there was enough difference between a them to justify each. I just don’t know if that’s the case between the 400, 500, 650, and ZX-4R/RR. Getting a little crowded. Maybe it’s time to replace the 400 with the 500 and a smaller 250 or 300.
