Front rotor bent, easy to replace?
This is my first bike, but I am pretty familiar with working on cars. I have a 2001 Ninja 250 that was dropped by the previous owner. I have most of the damage fixed but I think the front rotor is bent. (Using front break isn't smooth, and lever goes in and out). I am just wondering how much that would cost to fix/replace if I took it to a shop? Is it easy to do myself?
Thanks! |

Yes, unbolt bent one, bolt on new one.
Be forewarned Kawasaki used red Loc-tite on those rotor bolts, so apply heat first before attempting to loosen them. I would recommend at this time to either get a full floating rotor, or a wave style rotor, and new pads and service the caliper. Used OEM rotors are not recommend due to they warp. I recommend that every time you change your pads, you service the calipers, he's my write-up to help you out. It should fix your initial problem, and keep your calipers in top working order. Quote:
I also recommend flush and fill with new brake fluid, also I'd go with 5.1DOT This is the one I use https://m.motul.com/ca/en-us/product...-1-brake-fluid Also inspect the brake lines, replace is needed, http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Stainle..._lines_upgrade Quote:
On my 91 EX500 I have Spiegler, in orange to match that bike. Quote:
When it comes to safety items like brakes, when in doubt, throw them out, it's your safety in your hands, and is cheaper than a visit to the ER. Buy quality pads,I personally recommend EBC brand either the HH, or the Extreme HH. EBC full floating rotor, replace the OEM rubber line with a stainless steel braided brake line, cheaper than replacing them with OEM. On my 500 I have Spiegler line http://www.spieglerusa.com/brakes/cy...line-kits.html On my Ninja 250 i went with Venhill http://www.venhillusa.com/products.html With all that, it will stop on a dime, and leave you nine cents in change. look here http://ebcbrakes.com/products/motorcycle/ And also read this, http://www.ex-500.com/wiki/index.php...otors_and_Pads That should answer any questions you might have.

There's just nothing to add after a post from Ghostt!
Except maybe the only floating rotor I could find is from EBC at least here in Canada. Highly recommended you do this upgrade if you are changing your rotor! That's it; it's all I've got!

EBC is the only company I'm aware of that makes a full floating rotor for the Ninjette.
I have one on my EX500, and I love it, along with EBC Extreme HH pads, On my Ninjette I wave a wave style rotor and EBC HH pads, both bikes will stop on a dime, and leave you 9¢ change. SIDENOTE: I've upgraded the front forks, so the nosedive is not issue.
