No signal to coils, no spark. Replaced a bunch of parts and still not working.
Hi guys,
I've recently bought a ninja 250r as my first bike to learn to ride. I decided to get one from an auction that had a front on accident. I've replaced all the missing parts ( headlight, fairings etc) and got the bike turning over. However I can't get any spark. I have recently replaced all fuses in the fuse box and the 30A main fuse. I have replaced the cdi box and both coils, plugs and plug wires. I have replaced all the diodes. I am getting 11 to 12 volts at the coils DC. It seems that they are not being grounded by the signal wire in order to fire. I have tested the signal coil and get 120 ohms and around 2 volts when cranking. Just for good measure I drained the floats in the carb and have fresh fuel. I'm certain thought that spark is the problem. I am testing this by removing one plug at a time and grounding the plug while cranking and I get no spark. The bike is in neutral, clutch is in and the hand brake is on when cranking. I have also bypassed the kickstand. Any help would be great. Thanks ! PS, I have replaced the ingition barrel as the old one had broken wires due to the crash. The replacement part was from eBay (china). However it has the resistor that is required (I checked inside). So I can't see this being a problem. |

My Chinese eBay ignition did not have the resistor in it. Had to wire one in. I would double check the ignition, I know you said you checked for the resistor and it had one but your symptoms sound exactly like mine. Wired in a 100ohm 1v resistor and off I rode. Gray wire is the ignition wire where the resistor needs to go (sorry to be "that guy" and say check your ignition again) lol if its not that it could be a lot of different things seeing as it was in an accident before you bought it.

Mate, you are a champion!
Exactly right, thing started straight up after I added that resistor. But makes me wonder what the resistor is that was already there. And how can the ebay seller have good feedback if their part doesn't work off the shelf... |

Haha glad it worked! Idk why they would have a resistor in there and it not work? That's pretty lame.
Edit: just thinking, maybe the resistor that was in the ignition already didn't lower the voltage to the coils enough? You said your readings were 11-12v? Maybe it needs to be lower than 11v? (I'm pretty awful with all things electrical so idk its just a theory) |

I'm gonna assume you mean the ignition lock cylinder switch -- which you insert the key into.
