I don't mind the sexist undertones of such a stereotype because that type of label does nothing but benefit me as a woman...especially with the secret knowledge that some of us do like to ride hard. I HATE HATE HATE changing the oil. But I do it anyway. Quote:

True that! When I got my ninja, its oil was disgusting! But nower days there are some women who do take care of their bikes like me
I do ride my bike hard though. I guess meet the person and decide from there. If you ask how long ago was the oil changed and the air filter and they ask you if those aren't just in cars... run! |

I was once asked "where do I buy 710 fluid" and it wasn't by a guy... absolute truth.
As for female owned, it's an old marketing tool designed to get men to respond to the ad, we (men) are dogs. Sex sells, trust me I know, it's my business. |

My ninjette used to be lady ridden. Her engineer husband did the maintenance. I got it in lovely condition without a scratch on it. Best of both worlds?

If it makes you feel any better, "Nenette the Ninjette" IS pretty cool. I was actually contemplating Nina or Ninette for my green girl.

I chose to ignore "female owned", "adult owned", etc. advertisements completely, never looking at them.
My reasoning: If someone feels the need to advertise a car/motorcycle as babied, they're probably trying to cover something else up. I just came across an advertisement for a used Subaru WRX advertising that it was heavily modified, but female owned. I read "I'm ringing the pants off my car, beating the crap out of it every chance I get, but hey, it's okay because I'm a girl". move along. find someone who doesn't need to use a Trojan horse to sell a motorcycle. |

That's easy. It means the bike probably is going to need a clutch, brakes and it has probably "fell over" on the right side a few times.

My little red 250 was 'lady-owned' and that meant she - an engineer - had modified it to her stance and handspan (small asian lady->lowered, with small hands->adjustable brake lever). She'd also kept up the maintenance well, and the whole printed manual was full of notes and highlighted points on common tasks like oil changes.
As a wannabe engineer I took the first opportunity to start figuring out how to take the fairings off/swap headlights/locate the battery fuses - people assume we're not interested in mechanical stuff but we like to take care of our babies, no matter the type! XD |

It means I have a BSc in Electronic Engineering Technology - which is a science degree that covers much of the same material as an Electronic Engineering degree, but doesn't confer the legal privileges (here in Canada) of an engineer without additional experience and training.

Anyone who puts it probably means well but it is a silly stereotype.
That being said, all the older female riders I know are more sedate like me or have a track bike and a day bike and are meticulous about maintenance. All the boys I know who ride don't take great care of their bikes and already have tickets and crashes under their belt. But gender wouldn't sway me to or from buying a bike. I'd buy a bike because I know them as people who take care of things. My anecdotal experience is not the truth.
