"1986" Honda Hurricane

There's a guy on craigslist selling a 1986 Hurricane for $400 or best offer. For those of you who don't remember, this was a pretty sweet bike.

"I am selling a 1986 Honda Hurricane. Bike will crank but won't turn over! It was running about 4 months ago until my brother stopped starting it daily so i have no idea whats wrong with it! I am asking 400 obo! Bike will need new tires and some fairings! I do not have the title!"

I'd be using this as a project bike, so obviously the engine troubles just add more fun. I've got the money for a complete overhaul of the bike, but I've got a question for you folks that know everything about every bike: he says it's a 1986, and from what Google tells me, the line started in 1987.

Anyone have an explanation?

Also, if I get this, that day will mark the one where I start working on my own damn bikes. No more greedy mechanics!

It is quite possible that the bike was produced in 1986 as a 1987 model. If you look at the VIN sticker it may say produced 12/1986 which could be the cause of the confusion.

Times like this make me wish Ninjette had a rep system. Thanks a ton, fellow.

Will do! Just got some pictures.

Going to take a lot of work, and from the look of the clutch/fairings it's been down a few times.

It is, but that's part of the fun of it for me. I want to learn a thing or two about maintenance and turning this thing into a beauty will certainly be fun.

I'd start by stripping everything off and getting that frame sand blasted and powder coated.

God I love these types of projects! Savor every second of it!

LOL, no

I have taked on some really tough Z car restorations. I know where you are coming from.

A mid 80's sport bike would be really fun. have you decided on a color scheme ?

No, I haven't but I've been thinking about it. Anyone have any suggestions? I kind of want to put a modern touch on it. Maybe do it like my 250, glossy black with coloured bits and bobs/seat.

I agree.

I'd search out a nice cbr600 f2 to restore.

for me, on a project like you are contemplating, the hunt is almost as much fun as buying. have fun searching out a worthwhile project and be happy when you're bustin your ass into the late night cleaning, rebuilding and improving each and every piece that goes back on.

All online histories available have them launching in the US 1987, and none of them would hit 200 mph even if dropped from a plane. The CBR1000F made 135 hp in its most powerful form, just a bit more than a modern 600, and topped out around 160 mph.

No title means a pass vote to me. I'd love to get my hands on a CBR 600F2/F3. Smoking Joe's F3 preferable.

No title should mean no sale. Maybe even stolen.
How are you supposed to get that thing registered and on the road, even after you've spent thousands trying to restore it? And after you fix it, if you do, and it's discovered to have been stolen, guess what? All fixed up it goes back top the original owner and you are SOL. At least get the VIN and try and do a search on it. My advice, FYIW - pass on it and consider yourself lucky.

Nice bikes there .

NC35 and ZZR400

Too bad grey market stuff is hard to deal with in the US of A. I'd be all over a couple of those bikes if importing them were easy.
