The Save the salt group has been fighting for twenty years. Now the salt flats are in ruins the corse is in very bad shape. Very sad.
I've read where the Wendover Potash Facility in conjunction with the BLM have pumped nearly 11 million tons of salt onto the flats from nearby ponds. If that had not been done there probably be no Bonneville today. I guess the process is ongoing. "Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got til it's gone."

Yes NOW they are doing something about it. Step one was to remove the authority of the BLM. The state of Utah declared the speedway a national treasure and they are working to repair the flats. It will take a long time to allow Mother Nature to floood and repair the flats.

At BMST last year they said that a bunch (couple of hundred tons ?) had been trucked over and dumped by the boat ramp. I don't think it will ever be the same in our lifetimes, I know that I won't waste any more time/money out there.

There is a under salt stream at the boat ramp. That area is very bad. A couple hundred tons is spit in the ocean. A hundred million tons would be an better improvement. Yes it will take a long time to repair. Mile racing is all I need for the 250 Ninja. But any chance I get to go crew at Bonneville I will go.

Let me just say Valerie is awesome . I have know her since she started landspeed racing. She has paid her dues. She has definitely shown she is the real deal. I hope she has a safe trip.

Word is Valerie had a spill in Australia. She got out of the bike on her own and is OK. The streamlined slid a long way. No other word. My feeling is if it slid it is probably OK. Tumble is bad sliding is better . But never good either way. I really hope they can piece it back together and run again

Hope she is OK.

It's got to be super tricky to handle one of those. It doesn't take much to get out of shape, even for a seasoned pro.

Just look at Bill Werner and Sam Wheeler. The best of the best, both of them, but at those speeds there's no margin for error and minimal safety if things go bad.

Rather unusual LSR record attempt -

https://rideapart.com/articles/steam...d-speed-record

Does the writer know motorcycles?

"Instead of the hefty four-barrel that normally powers the ‘Busa, Wedgwood’s Gixxer gets power to the rear-wheel via a steam generator."

Who uses "four-barrel" when talking about cycle fuel systems? Who calls a Hayabusa a "Gixxer"?

Setting A Motorcycle World Speed Record On Sand

https://rideapart.com/articles/200-mph-sandspeed-record

Interesting fact about sand -

"Unlike riding on a paved surface, when you go down on sand, you don’t slide. Like, at all."

"When Eisenberg goes on speed runs, he straps into an elaborate harness system connected to the bike."

Meanwhile in Bolivia
Ralph Hudson just went 292mph then backed it up with a 290 average 291 mph on salt! That’s a sit on motorcycle

The ECTA now runs out of Blytheville (?), Arkansas.

I'm at Loring right now for the 10th annual Maine Event. Some fast cars and bikes up here and we're having great weather. Best venue in the country, right here...

Ralphie is here to ride Don's turbo 1000 (hopefully). Also, Don has the compound bike. I know the Foil Hat name, not sure if they're here now but can check easily enough.

I am very sad not to be there. But I have to go to the Arkansas race in September. Please tell everyone hello for me. Foil hat Racing is Joe chuck and Chris . They have a Z125 they are running . The Honda they have is a V4 500 turbo. It has the potential to be the fastest 500cc motorcycle ever to run anyplace .

Don’s 1000 is sick and with Ralphi on board we can expect great things. Then there is the Compound turbo. OMG 0-300 mph in a standing mile. Watch that one. Get some photos. That bike is like nothing on earth.

I never did catch up to those guys but remember the bike in tech. They had some sort of warranty issue with the 125, not sure when they left or how they ran. Tons of runs and most days we spent a lot of time waiting for folks to come up to the line. Things wrapped up early (yesterday afternoon) as everybody was either run out, broken or too tired. Fantastic meet.

Don only made a couple of lower speed runs to get some data.

Derbi engine with Bidalot parts.

Ran a best of 121.194 MPH at Bonneville this year with the 100cc engine.

Really cool custom frame.

Isint that amazing?
There are so many great stories this year. Danny Thompson in challenger. Dan Parker the blind racer. It was a good year.
Next up is the motorcycle speed trials. Can’t wait to see how it goes.

I had a big argument with guys at work. They said it was not mathematically possible to make 1000 hp from a 2 liter engine. I said the people I know don’t even know how to spell impossible.
The laughed at me and showed me all sorts of math stuff. I called the guy that supplied Big CC Engine parts. Wossner pistons. I did not continue the argument.

Pushing 1000 HP.
I think that will make him 16th fastest in the mile. 1000 hp is pretty much a flash reading; no mention of fuel type either. It's still a very impressive run.

The late Bill Warner is still The Man, at 311, if I'm not mistaken.

Hey Frank - what's the sit-on (non-streamliner) electric motorcycle record?
