Exclamation 06 Ninja 250- Starting Issues. Need help

So I just bought this bike two days ago. Rode it the last two days and everything was fine. Took it out today, started up fine. Cranked several times actually. But all of a sudden, it wouldnt turn over anymore. I hit the start button, and it doesnt even attempt to crank anymore. All it does is make a whiney, grinding noise. Any advice would be appreciated

Try and jump it from another battery. If it starts right up, your battery is likely toast. When the battery is very close to dead, it doesn't have enough juice to engage the starter gear so it can sometimes make that whiny noise.

Yes, as long as the truck is off.

It does sound like the battery may need to be replaced. Check and clean the terminals before you jump it from a non running vehicle.

Whiney noise? I've drained my battery dead hundreds of times, and I've had wimpering, coughing, and the usual clicking noises, but never a whine. Is it a whine like an electric motor running quickly? If so, your starter motor may no longer be connected to your crankshaft...

Can you bump start it? That's sometimes easier than jumpstarting anyway. And fwiw, I jump my ninja from my car when it's running all the time, and jump my car from my bike. Never had a problem. check the running voltages if you're not sure (well, okay...we'll go ahead and tell you the ninja is a bit over 14 since that might be hard for you to test....). My car is almost the same.

I jumped the bike off with the car and it started right up. My battery was garbage. Bought a new one and all is well

What battery did you go with, if you don't mind? Just curious, as I'm also in the market for a new one.
