Got a big box from Sportisimoto USA today

Matt told my he was shipping my order yesterday and I was surprised to find it on my doorstep today. It felt like Christmas going through all the peanuts seeing what I would find next.

I got the Sportisi VR Black exhaust. It even came with the pair of exhaust gaskets. I guess I didn't need to order a pair from Kawasaki. I've bought exhausts from Muzzy, M4, D&D, Vance & Hines and none came with gaskets.

I got the programmable BRT TIS. Looking forward to the higher rev limiter and a little more power.

I got a braided front brake line. Combined with my new EBC HH pads the bike should stop.

I got some jets to tune my carbs to the new exhaust.

I got a pair of Kitaco clip-ons with replaceable bars just in case I have an oopsie.

Finally some stickers for my bike to spread the love of Sportisimoto.

I'll let you guys know how the stuff all works out after I get it on my bike.

Craig,

Have you NorCal racers determined that the BRT TIS is legal for 250 Production? I know guys in WERA are using them (illegal). We cannot use them down here, according to our rules.

Richard I want to know why your so quick to point out the tis is illegal in WERA. I haven't heard mongo state that. Especially when almost 70% of the Wera GNF field from last year now runs them in their bikes. AFM wise the tis is illegal in the production class but not the superbike class.

I remembered a WERA thread: http://forums.13x.com/showthread.php...t=brt&page=228

I may have been mistaken, as it seems to address the fact that the ceramic bearings are illegal, but the TIS was not addressed specifically by Mongo. Is it a replacement ECU?

Hey Richard,

AFM Requirements of Production Motorcycles rule: 9.1.11p) Ignition control modules may be modified or replaced with aftermarket modules. Replacement modules must connect to the original connectors.

There is no Superbike rule to prohibit it.

Pretty clear cut that it is legal for AFM.

It is a direct replacement of the CDI. No modification needed. It isn't like a PC3 which is an add on part.

I installed the exhaust yesterday. The fit is good and it looks great. It is much better looking than I expected. It has a good sound, loud but not obnoxiously loud. I was going to make a video because I know a lot of you like to hear what the exhausts sound like. The jetting is off and there is an obvious flat spot in the mid-range so I am re-jetting the carbs and will try and get to a video once it is done. The only hitch in installing the pipe was that the hole in the muffler bracket was a mileometer or two too small, a quick grind with my Dremel fixed it.

I also installed the BRT TIS. At first I couldn't get the connectors to connect. I pushed and wiggled but no go. I looked for bent pins but they all appeared straight. I compared the OEM CDI connector to the BRT TIS and and saw that the was a plastic insert missing from the OEM unit. It was in the bike harness connector. Once I picked it out with a pair of needle nose plyers the BRT connected perfectly. Just a note in case someone else has the same problem. It had me scratching my head for about 5 minutes. The BRT is slightly larger than the OEM CDI so you can't use the factory rubber mount. I just drilled a couple holes in the plastic tabs that hold the OEM unit and secured the BRT with a zip tie. I haven't ridden the bike but after the BRT TIS install it revs happily past 13,500 rpm where it used to it the rev limiter. There are places on the track I like to be able to over-rev the engine and save myself an upshift.

I put on my new braided brake like. I no longer see it on the Sportisimoto website. Matt are you still selling the brake lines? Putting in on was easy, it came with new high quality banjo bolts and new crush washers. It is a little longer than stock. Better too long than too short; makes it easier to adjust things.

I have never listed HEL lines on my site. I generally only source them for racers at cost. I'm going to add HEL eventually to regular stock. The length thing was probably just the distributor accidentally cutting the line a little long. At least it isn't short. Put your e clips in the secound groove from the top thats where the most power was made.

Thanks for the tip. I hate pulling these carbs to re-jet. I've got the AEM wideband gauge coming any day. Hopefully I won't have to do many/any jet changes.

Put your front end up in a race stand and then let us know if the line is still too long. Should be about right when front wheel off the ground. (still little slack)
Much better than too short for sure. Even the stock line is too short for this test on some bikes. (Longer cable than stock is a bonus)

You pull them to rejet? I've rejetted a handful of times (seasons and airbox delete) without having to pull the carbs yet. Just find it easier I suppose?

I find it difficult to drill out the idle screw caps with the carbs in the bike.

On my old school 250s I've adjusted the needles without removing the carbs but have always pulled them to get to the mains. I'm switching to allen head screws on the float bowls so maybe I'll give it a try if I need to change the main jets.

Gotcha... I stand corrected about the legal nature of the TIS. But, still glad they aren't legal with WSMC ))

I re-jetted my bike today using the Sportisi needles. The mid-range flat spot is gone. Here is a video for those of you interested in how the VR exhaust looks and sounds:

Side note whatever sportisi uses to polish the headers I do not like. After the headers have been run in they will change color where the compoud wasn't cleaned off all the way. I recommend a nice wipe down of the exhausts. I am starting to do it here before I send it out. I like shiny headers.

I mesured the HEL and it is 3" longer than OEM. It just curves a little on the way down. No problem for me and perfect for anyone wanting to raise their bars.
