My work in progress
Thanks everybody for all the help, parts and DIY's!
It's all starting to come together. GSXR exhaust fitted and installed today. It was mated to a beautiful Area P header... BikeLitez rear fender eliminator with plate LED and LED blinkers... Airbox and Kleen system are gone. K&N is in. Factory Pro stage 3 kit installed. Next up, brake lines! So, what flasher unit should I use for the blinkers? |

I'm looking for the smallest turbo available. No intercooler unless I make a really small one. I want to keep the stock internals together if possible. It's about a 2 hour job with removal of plastics, etc.. You'll have to cut and splice the wiring. I recommend soldiering them and heatshrink over that. The instructions aren't half bad that come with it. |

I used www.fastermotorsports.com for most of my installation stuff. I was gonna do it all myself but I don't really have the time with work and I wanted it Dyno-tuned so they told me they'l install whatever I wanted for a nominal fee while it was apart for the jetting, etc.
It was a really good deal. The exhaust fab was the priciest part of the whole deal. That cost about $300 with parts and welding, but it was worth it. I've spent hours researching the GSXR can swap and this is the most professional job I've seen, including custom mounting tabs and fitment. I'll pull it apart and get a bunch of pictures when I have time and ride a bit. |

I'm glad to see that your not discouraged by what others say. I too am toying with the idea of a turbo simply for the fact that others say its a waste of time and money. The most expensive part will be buying a 600 so when everyone says I should have bought a 6 hundred I can say I already did. Nice bike btw

nice mods dude.
for flasher, go to autozone and buy that 2 prongs tridon electronic flasher will work. if you want to use all four leds, you need to do the diode mod. You can use resistor but I don't recommend this because of the heat issues. Search my old post..there is instruction on how to do it from a to z |

Good luck with the turbo that's going to be awesome. Have you thought about a Megasquirt unit or something like it? Draw through or blow through turbo set ups are a pain. Also, our bikes have "relatively" low compression and some insanely well machined inside bits. A turbo is definately possible with stock internals with small amounts of boost. Sweet action!!

Dirty, thanks bro!
Random, i'll check out your post. Thanks! TNNG, Megasquirt is an option but I figured a salvage bike from across the sea would yield the necessary parts. Plus I don't think I've heard of a US FI conversion using factory components. I'd enjoy that distinction. My welder would enjoy the fab work! Posted via Mobile Device |

The question is: Can you get enough fuel to the motor using a factory FI system?
I guess there are a few questions really. Like: does it use a MAP or a MAF sensor? You know, general boost associated questions. |

I have a high end BWM Audi VW tuner shop at my disposal. Not sure if its MAF or MAP. I see fitting a RRFPR and custom Power Commander tune or MS... Sky is the limit!
I'll have to work around my 2.4 Liter 4G64 turbo build for my Raider and my heads and cam project for my LS2 Trailblazer. Posted via Mobile Device |

RRFPR is kinda archaic... Would work though. This project sounds very cool and has me more than a bit interested.

How did the dyno compare the GSXR/AreaPHeader combo and the AreaP full system?
If it's the same, or just as good, I will probably do this to my Yoshi headers. Then get the pod filters and a new jet kit, since DynoJet doesn't have big enough jets to handle the air pods. If you were to get a turbo on a 250, how would that affect handling/cornering? It's a good idea. |

I'll have Dyno sheets for stock and for header+can when I pick it up, which I'll happily post when I figure out how. Keep in mind also, I am at 5,200-5,600 feet. I recommend the Factory Pro jet kit. I imagine this exhaust will put out the most peak power because of the flow it allows. Ridability may suffer slightly at lower RPM's with the lack of backpressure. I'll just put my foot over the hole off the line. A turbo shouldn't affect handling. I'm not sure what you mean. Are you referring to added weight, balance/center of gravity? Or power through turns, etc? I got rid of the 750 and 1000 cc bikes I had because they were a waste of money and power for me. I ride to work and occasionally hit the local canyons with some buddies. I can out perform most of the folks up there with big liter bikes because they don't know how to ride or are on a bike that is too big. The ninja is perfect size but could use a little more power... A turbo 250 would be the best of both worlds for me. It's not guaranteed that I'll even get around to it anytime soon but it would be fun project. |

I took a peek at a Dyno sheet laying around when I went to drop off a flasher unit at the shop. I didn't write down the numbers but it looked like an improvement of 4 or 5 horsepower. It also completely smoothed out power delivery. The stock run was very jagged. The run with the exhaust before tuning was a super smooth line.
I'm looking forward to posting the sheets. Anyone know how? Do I just scan it in on a flat bed scanner? ETA: Looks like most folks on the intarwebs just scan it in. I'm not sure if it's "corrected" or not either. I'll ask when I pick it up. |

I picked it up today. Its like a different bike. Protons wired up with Bikelitez LED rears and the electric flasher from the proton thread. No diodes. Works great. HIDs rule. Tons more power from the intake jetting and full exhaust. I think dyno tuning helped. Power delivery is smooth from idle to redline. Only issue is the exhaust heat shield is a bit too close to the faring since it was measured up while the header wasn't completely torqued down. I'm gonna trim thw heat shield with a dremmel, buff and smooth the respray. For added protection I'm gonna put a bit of weather strip on the faring.
Next up a new Corbin seat, Cortech luggage, a windscreen and I'm done. I'll re-evaluate sprokets at a later date. Turbo FI conversion will have to wait until my smile wears off. Tons of pics and dyno results coming soon. Have 10 hours of protecting and or serving and a camera that needs charged! Posted via Mobile Device |

I'll also attempt to source a decent video recorder for exhaust footage with sound and a mod walkaround. I don't think my Blackberry Storm video camera is up to it.

At 5,280 feet ~ of elevation. K&N pods, FP Stage 3 Jet kit, airbox delete, kleen air delete, Area P header, GSXR exhaust. Max power 27.56 - Torque 13.51 Stock, 23.60 - Torque 12.32 Conditions were much more favorable on the stock run at 57 F. On the second run with the mods, it was 3 weeks later, 81 F. Here is Area P's full system. They picked up a little more with a baffled can for more backpressure. Their test mule likely has higher miles and is fully broken in. I dyno'd with 189 miles. http://www.areapnolimits.com/images/...8_dyno_big.gif |
