Ninja 250 Transmission assembly video

Link to original page on YouTube.

I bought a basket case 250 Ninja last week as a father/son project. The transmission would only go into first gear and neutral. Turned out the positive neutral finder in fifth gear was damaged and prevented the shift drum from rotating up beyond neutral by binding the shift fork from sliding further on the shift drum. I put a new set of gears in and decided to make a video showing how a transmission works. Hope this helps anyone working on their transmission.

My friend's Katana 600 has a bent shift fork and forces you to skip second gear. It's expensive to pay a mechanic but we've never done anything like that. Would you say that it's risky? We'd be doing the work outdoors and likely buying tools as we go, so it wouldn't be the best environment.

When I was a starving college student working as a Triumph, Norton, BSA mechanic, I would buy dead motorcycles for next to nothing, take the motors out, put a sheet of plywood down in my bed room and rebuild the engines right there next to my bed. Yeah it smelled like a garage in there, but sometimes ya gotta improvise when you don't have the funds... Its not an easy thing to do, you must take your time if its the first time and you're learning along the way. If you have a knowledgeable friend to help even, better. Never force anything. It will definitely be a learning experience, you can send me pixs and I can help you over the internet.

Hey, do you know any trick to getting this circlip off the shift drum.

I'm changing to a new crankcase and the shift drum is the last part to get out of the old case.
