Talking 2012 Ninja 250 Rescue

Hey y'all! Name's David, or Dave. Don't matter.

I just purchased a 2012 Ninja 250 with 6200 miles (16200 maybe?) from auction for $1600. I'm not new to riding motorcycles, but this is my first street bike.

I've found a lot of good advice on these forums so I figured I needed to introduce myself and what I'm working with. I'm from Oklahoma, a hop and a skip from the Texas border. If any of yall been to Choctaw Casino then you've been in my neck of the woods.

I made a quick video of the bike, here's the YouTube link.

Hi Dave, welcome! That looks like a pretty good start. It sounds like you'll have it in good condition before long. I expect acetone will dissolve the overspray pretty quickly.

Thanks guys!

I didn't even think about acetone to get that off there, thanks for that!

Welcome here. If there is damage to any of the plastics, the fairings can be repaired. That includes things like broken tabs.
There's Polyurethane Supply and others.

That is cool, I didn't know know that either. I've fixed plastics like car bumpers with the heated metal wires before, never anything like that. Reminds me of fiberglass without the itch.

Cool thing is ABS is native material of fairings. So you're replacing missing material in cracks with same stuff that was there originally. No seams of different materials to separate later! Just as strong as original!

I finally got the old battery out and I was shocked to find the original Kawi factory battery date stamped 29022012. Tested at 76 cranking amps, 12.5v. Put the new battery on and it solved that buzzing when I start it. I'm just amazed that battery lasted over 11 years, life expectancy for car batteries is usually 4-5 years.

Quality of lead-acid batteries have been going downhill. Manufacturers just don't care about creating quality product for end-of-life technologies. I've had plenty of OEM Yuasa batteries last 10-yrs. Then after they started working only for 2-3 yrs, I went to lithium and never looked back! One on my VFR is going on 10-yrs now without any issues and should work for another 10-yrs.

Nice and fully-charged even after sitting for 4-months of winter (not on tender):

Starts right up on 1st crank and doesn't drop too much voltage while spinning engine.

I've gone through at least 6 batteries with this bike and lithium's been best yet!
