Add Oil Temperature Sensor, location?
I know a lot of the aftermarket gauges (Koso) chose to put the oil temperature sender in the drain plug on the new gen by using an adapter. Some even say to take the stock oil pressure one out and use that (don't know why, quite dangerous IMO).
However, I would rather not have to deal with the sensor when trying to drain the oil. I couldn't find much on anyone doing this, but would it be ok to put the sender where the old drain plug is (that was carried over from the pre-gen)? That way, once it is in, it's in and would never have to be messed with. The sender I want to use does protrude a bit more than the koso one, so does anyone have any experience of something being in the way near that location? The only thing I could think of is maybe the inlet/outlet of the oil pump? Thanks. |

the current oil pressure sensor is between the bottom and the head, on the front of the engine. you could install a T for that fitting and install it there maybe?

Granted that is where the oil gets taken to the heads, not sure if the adapter adds enough of an "indentation" where the oil kind of sits there (since under pressure) and takes a while to get "replaced/heated" by the passing oil. Again, I don't know how true that is, I have heard several people say that it needs to be in the flow of the fluid, so I'm guessing it's because of it "sitting there". |
