Don't know what to do with my 250
I'm posting this to ask my fellow Ninja riders advice. I have my first bike / my wife's bike the 2012 Ninja 250 that I don't know what to do with. It has 17.5k miles on it and my wife no longer wants to ride it.
She was in a small accident which led to it being damaged (see photos of left side faring). It was declared salvage title bike because of the damage to the farings. We bought it back from insurance because we didn't care that it had some scrapes. We had it checked over by our local shop and it is in good working condition, it just has scrapes on it. She rode it for a little bit longer but she now is scared of it, and she is now pregnant so I doubt she will ever be riding again unfortunately. I have a set of shogun frame sliders that she never got put on still in the box and the matching color rear seat delete. Any suggestions on what I should do with the bike. I would ride it but I prefer my 650 for the comfort when I commute. Thank you. |

Keep it.
Sell it on CL. Part it out on eBay.

^^^ This @Talon. Unless you're very tight for cash which is understandable with a new baby coming along (congrats!) you will never regret having a dedicated track bike in the stable so you can really enjoy riding without worrying about damaging it if you should drop it. You don't need fairings etc and the 250 is a great bike for the track! Super cheap fun and you've already got the big expense paid for!
Your riding skills will improve a quantum leap when you can ride to your limits without the danger of road furniture and oncoming traffic etc to be able to practice with greatly limited dangers on the road! ...if only my writing skills would improve with practice!

Absolutely. Track bike.
Let's assume you're not a "track guy" and/or that your wife equates track with racing and danger. It might not seem appealing to go that route. Look at it differently. The track is a controlled environment where you can develop and sharpen your street skills in ways that you never could on the street. It is an opportunity for training and becoming safer. And you don't need to go that fast... you can learn an incredible amount even in the novice group. The most valuable thing I've gotten out of the track by far is that it's made me a smarter, better and safer rider on the street.

if you're not tight on cash, donate it to a fellow member in need/sponsor a new rider through your local track/motorcycle shop/donate it to charity for a raffle?
Or, you can give it to me and I'll either ride it or make sure it goes to a good home. (This is a joke, but obviously, if it's paid forward to me, I would pay it forward) :P

As much as I would like to track the 250, with the new baby on the way I can't really justify the expense of a track suit any any modifications to the bike that would be required.
If you know anyone in the CVMA group that may be interested let me know and they can get it contact with me or vice versa. Im not in any hurry to get rid of it at the moment so if the right rider comes along I'm happy to make them a good deal, but I also can't just give it away. I'll probably post it up on CL and see if I get any interest. Thank you all for your help. |

I'll go along with alex.s on this one: if you genuinely have the desire to head to the track, affordable protection can be found.
If you don't need to sell it, I'd suggest just keeping it around. Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing, or so I've been told. Your disposable income may increase, your desire to hit the track may blossom, all sorts of things might happen. It may be easier to use a bike you already have somewhere down the line than it will be to find a replacement ninjette in good condition at a price that fits your future budget.

Particularly with a new ankle biter on the way; you should be wearing the same gear on the street as the track! There's more danger on the roads!

remove turn signals and mirrors - free remove headlight fuse and brake lamp bulb - free get some scrap vinyl from a sign shop to cover head and brake lights - <$10 scour CL for used leathers - <$250 If you sell it with a salvage title you'll be lucky to get $1k for it. Use this as an expendable learning tool. BUT! all that is preferanced on you having some way to transport it to the track and back. |

This, all day every day. If you've got a baby on the way, why on earth are you NOT doing all you can to protect yourself? Think about it. And yeah, used leathers are not hard to come by in the $250 range. Or how about the killer deal on a BRAND NEW leather two-piece from STG? Just $350. http://www.sportbiketrackgear.com/sc...-suit-special/ Do this and you're not buying race gear. You're upgrading your street gear to protect the baby's daddy better. Getting to the track: Once you start poking around, you're likely to connect with local riders who go to the track and would be happy to carpool. Three of us here on the forum are doing a trip this summer to Mid-Ohio, and we're all piling into one vehicle. This can be done, easier than you might think.
