Official At Last: Luca Marini To Join Repsol Honda It is the open secret we have all known since at least Sepang. And now it's official. Luca Marini is to ride for the Repsol Honda team for the next two seasons, to partner Joan Mir.

The signing of Marini marks the end of a long and confusing chapter for HRC. It took them a long time to select a rider who was available, could be released from their contracts, and could agree on a length of contract. Many names were put forward, including Miguel Oliveira, Aleix Espargaro, Fabio Di Giannantonio, and Johann Zarco.

In the end, it was Luca Marini who agreed terms with HRC, after pressure from Japan. The Italian signed for two years, a condition to allow him a year to get to know the bike.

Why would Marini leave the confines of the Mooney VR46 team, where he is comfortable and on a bike capable of winning? Because the Repsol Honda seat is a factory ride. Within Ducati, Marini's chances of a factory seat are slim.
