Advice Insurance Payout 636 or New Ninja 250
I'm a little conflicted on what I want to do. I had my red 2008 250 stolen 2 weeks ago. The insurance company rang me today and gave me 2 options
If I take option 2 It opens itself up to 2 more options
So this is basically how my head is seeing it Take option 1 get a new 2010 250 in black get a bike with zero kilometers on it and a full 2 year Kawasaki Factory warrenty on it and being a new bike puts me back into the "If it is written off in the first 2 years and less then 30000 kilometers get a new bike" with insurance Take option 2 buy the second hand red bike with 9 months Kawasaki Factory warrenty on it and 5000 k's (15000 less then what was on my stolen red one) Take option 2 add $1000 to the cash and buy the 636 get a dealer warrenty plus a higher market value then what either of the 250's will be so if it does get written off the payout in the event would put no worse off then where I am at now. |

If you haven't had a chance yet go test drive a 636. I recently did and LOVED how the 636 felt. It was much more sporty. It felt like having clip-ons and rearsets on a 250 plus A LOT more power in a chasis that felt more stable because its wider. However it did feel a bit heaver and it took me a while to get used to how to lean the bike. However if you aren't interested in upgrading to something bigger or would not feel comfortable with how sporty the 636 is then I would stick with the 250. Considering option 2 it's really depends on cost savings. Personally I would stick with option 2 because I could get a nice amount of money back to put into savings or towards anything else but considering your first bike was stolen, I would take into account the area where you live and say option 1 since a new bike will get you more money back incase it happens again.

What are the chances that your bike will get stolen again and is it time to move to a bigger bike? If you really dig the 250, I would get the 2010 one.

Ha, when I started reading this thread, I saw a $6900 250 payout and I was ready to go find a new insurance company! Then I realized your in Australia
If you really feel you need (or even just want) more power, then consider the 636....just remember you'll be breaking the speed limit in 1st gear in most places, which kind of kills some of the fun to me. (I like shifting) As far as a new or used 250.... What are the chances it will be stolen again? If you think it's a high chance, your probably best going new so that it is covered again like it is now. If you think you can keep it relatively safe, take the used bike and bank the money. How much money would you be saving this route and how much would insurance pay out IF it were stolen?

This is really a question only you know the answer to, but if it were me I would take the 636, but thats only because I want one really really bad, but im upside down on my 250.

First thing: you notice damn that rear exhaust looks good! Second thing: is how much more sportier the seating position and how low the bars are compared to the 250. Third thing you'll notice POWER! Fourth thing: Digital layout FTW!

But my question is: should you buy the 636, how likely is that to get stolen? If your 250 got stolen, I'd imagine that a 636 would be an even hotter bike because of the parts demand both with track riders and with stunters. If I were you I'd either go with the new 2010 250...or if I wanted to upgrade, I'd find a "less" desireable supersport. Thats just me, though. |

I figure if you want my next bike, you gotta put in a bit more effort. I haven't defected yet. I just need to rule the 636 or out of the equation so I can inform the insurance company which way I want to go. I was going to take it for a ride on the weekend, but thought I might as well do it earlier so I can get it all sorted earlier. I miss not havern the bike. It was my only form of transport. |

Well I am sad to say. I found the riding position to aggressive. I found after 5 minutes my back was aching. It was a nice bike and all, but found I would hate it after a week from aching backs. It made me realise how much I enjoyed the ninja 250

I have just informed them to replace it with a brand new black one. The only 2 choices I get in colour is black or blue and feel red riding gear goes better with a black bike then a blue one.
