Son in law will be along shortly.

My son in law is stationed in Grands Forks. Wanted a bike since I met him. Well after his last deployment my daughter relented and he got ninja 250. Don't know much about it. I have and have had a zrx 1200.

Got text this afternoon. Sounds like idle jet is clogging up. We will start trying to do this long distance. Talk to guys soon.

hey sounds like the son-in-law can't be TOO bad, right?

jets on these carbs are a little b#%$h. poke em all the way through with some wire and get it nice and clean.

He might try the non-invasive route first, if only because it's less hassle and who knows... it might work.

Head down to the local Pepzone Advance Boys Auto Parts and pick up some Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner. Use as directed and see if the system de-gums itself.

Can't hurt, right?

PS: If he does get to the point of disassembling the carbs and poking the jets, better to use a copper wire so as not to scratch things.

I am very pleased with them. Wish they were somewhere else. 7 years in the NODAK is a bit much. Though it did get them close for my daughters college years.

I suggested Berrymens B-12 in the fuel run 10 min and let sit until he gets to it this weekend. Then I suggested a wire off of a wire brush. As that fits well in the ZRX idle jets. In my mind I am doing math ... 1200cc divided by 4 = 300cc which should equal wire from brush bought at Wal-Mart.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Interesting logic.... not sure I see how that works but basically yeah, a wire from a (non-steel) wire brush should work fine. Just don't force it and mangle the jet.

FYI the stock pilot jet in a Ninjette is a Keihin #38, which AFAIK means the orifice is 0.38 mm in diameter, or about 0.015 inch in old money. Dial calipers are cheap and easy to find at your local Home Lowe Tractor Ace Depot Supply store.

I like to use one or more strands from electrical hookup wire. One for very small openings, and several twisted strands for larger openings.

It's not just the jets that get plugged, but also the passage under (on top of) the jet. That's where mine gave me the most problems, that crap was in there like mortar.

Steel guitar strings can be sourced by the thousandth of an inch and work great to clear clogged pilot jets (but not the transfer ports) Do your math to calculate size required...

Ask any guitar player...for example..the posted .015" will be a "B" (second) string

The #38 Keihin is .38mm= .0149".....I'd suggest stick with a .014" string (a fourteen in guitar speak) followed by carb spray bath and compressed air. I'd dissuade going larger.

Guitar strings, sold by the set (6 strings) are commonly identified by size of the top "E" string....twelves (.012") thirteens are considered thick, by guitar standards usually used with acoustic guitars. Individual strings, sold by size, should also be available at your local music store.

Hot tip....boil the pilot jets before "poking" to soften the clog.

Another hot tip...using the right chemicals...heated ultrasonic is another highly effective method to clearing pilots AND the invisible, unreachable ports.

Another hot tip...don't force oversized, unidentified wire into the jets...avoid "hogging them out"
Know what size you are supposed to be jammin' in there....no larger.

Brass before and after...YES they are from the same owner, same EX500 carb set I did 2016. No tricks, just effort.
