Rancho Cucamonga CA to Long Beach...no freeways.
Last Sunday I rode GMR, today I decided to check out the queen mary.
Took Foothill West to Central, Central South to Carbon Canyon, Birch st. to downtown Brea, cut over to Imperail Hwy due to the farmers market. Sat at a gas station for about an hour while it rained, then continued W through Al Meda? all the way to the 615 freeway and just cut side streets all the way to Long Beach. I'm sure it would have been much faster to take the freeway but hey, I had nothing better to do. Rode all around Ocean Ave., blew the toll gates at the queen mary, ate unlimited hot wings at Hooters and found that their 911 wings aren't really hot at all. Checked out what I assume to be the Ghetto, walked around the marina, rode all over downtown and the East village. I was about 150 miles in and decided to head for home, took the 615 N to Imperail and basically just back tracked. Someone please come ride with me, I don't really know anyone out here in SoCal and my only entertainment right now is my bike. Thinking about hitting Palm Desert tomorrow as it should be a bit warmer than the coast. |

My wife and I are planning a mid-winter vacation to SoCal to go riding during our off season, so I will hit you up when we finalize our plans and maybe we can meet up. We are planning to spend a full week riding down there when it is freezing cold and snowing here in MT. I may have another couple on board with this idea, so we could get a gang of Ninja's going . I have been researching and asking around about great riding roads and areas to try and figure out the best place to stay in terms of a home base.

San deigo is a great spot for you guys to stay as well. You have the palomar mountains that are close with great twisties, zoo sea world, great places to eat and can come up the coast for some relaxed riding sight seeing rides. You can stay a bit north up towards Malibu and you have Rock Store and twisties up there as well but would be expensive and I think better riding more to do down south. Hit me up when you come and I'll ride out with guys. Perhaps a big ninjette group ride would be in order. |

THANKS! I am trying to get all of the suggestions I can ahead of time, before we book a place to stay. A number of people said we should stay in Palm Springs and ride from there. There are a lot of places for rent there when I look online, which helps. We have also debated touring in a big circle and staying somewhere different each night, but I would have to find a place to stash the SUV and trailer that we are towing them down on. I will definitely send you guys PM's when we have a plan so we can try and meet some folks.
collector000 do you know of a lot of other good roads in your area? We would like to avoid sitting in CA freeway traffic, for obvious reasons. |

Yeah I've been trying to avoid the freeways because I want to learn the area as much as possible, also because the pavement on the freeways is super sketchy. The bike tends to wander a lot, I rode on the 10 eastbound to Redlands for about a week every day and it was kind of white knuckle. My first experience with grooved pavement, the highways in Missouri are only 2 lanes wide and they're super smooth. After leaving Long Beach I rode maybe 5 or 10 miles North on the 605 and it was pretty uncomfortable. Add wet pavement to the mix and it's just not cool at all. I don't mind riding in the wet at lower speeds, or on good pavement, but the interstates here suck. I've heard the 210 is a little bit better because it's newer but I haven't really been on it much.

Yeah I'm still on stock tires, I'll be getting a new front sometime next week. I'm definitely over my fear of the freeway though. Just getting used to riding at high speed in close quarters with cars took some time but I'm good now. Splitting lanes is fun.

Well...
Friday I rode from Rancho all the way to where 138 exits off the 15, then took 138 west all the way through Palmdale, then to Frazier Park, then took Lockwood valley road to 33. Took 33 South to the coast, PCH to the 101 back to LA and then back home on the 210. This was over 300 miles for the day, with a lunch break and all kinds of stops for no reason in between. |
