What mods to do have to get this 40hp? Any dyno-charts with AFR?

How are you priming carbs?

Many causes of low gas flow.

1. Insufficient vacuum to petcock. Do you have vacuum-gauge and can measure actual vacuum-level that goes into petcock? I had issue on my race-bike with vacuum line getting coiled up and pinched under tank. Made it about 1.5-laps and engine would die. Let sit for couple minutes on PRI and it’d start right up.

Got back to pits, pulled tank off to take look. Everything’s fine, ran for 10-minutes no problem. Bolted everything together and went out again. Exactly 1.5 laps in, fizzed to stop again! Sat for while, started right back up. This time, i connected rubber-T to petcock and measured vacuum. Bolted everything back up like I was going out on track. Even sat on bike. Watched vacuum-gauge and sure enough, after initial amount to open petcock, vacuum went down and down until petcock shut off and my carbs ran dry! Looked carefully at vacuum hose and there was certain curve that became sharp kink and cut off vacuum when I bolted down tank.

2. Low flow from petcock. Disconnect fuel-line from carbs and aim into measuring cup. Using vacuum-pump, apply exact amount of vacuum you measured going to petcock in step#1 to petcock’s vacuum line. Time flow for 30s (use stopwatch). How much petrol did you collect in 30-seconds?

I took it back out last night after i changed the fuel line to 5/8 and took off the inline filter that was on it it ran better got it to run longer but not right no vacuum leak it does the same thing on prime im going to raise the fuel level and see if that helps

Does yours still have the tiny filter that's right at the carb inlet, that's hidden until you take off the fuel line?

If that little filter gets installed backwards, it will crumple into a wad and block flow. Best to replace with in-line filter to make it easier to inspect.

Still, without any concrete measured numbers, hard to diagnose anything.

Yeah, even in it's installed correctly it'll get clogged, and if you don't know it's there you scratch your head and try to figure out why nothing you do cures the fuel flow problems. Like I did that is.

call me curious. I'd like to know what engine configuration demands such extreme jetting and flow characteristics?

Ya it has the filter its lookes new also i had an inline filter but i took it out and installed 5/8 im going to try to get a high flow peacock on it and see if that works.running 42 pilots and 112 mains 2 shims and 2 3/4 turns out its still not running rich going to go with 118 mains and see how it runs. Exhaust manifold from a 454 ltd modified duel to the stock mufflers and Head work the previos owner said he bored it over havnt had to tear it down yet to see what pistons it has on the 06 and waiting on parts for the 05 just did the head on that one and picking up a 85 900 Wednesday

You could have a malfunctioning petcock. Also check the tank venting by opening the filler when it stalls and listening for air rushing in. If the new fuel line is too long and has a low spot it may also be affecting the gravity fuel flow.

I can't imagine it would be running lean with those jets, and unless it was a total monster engine I would think it's way rich all over. Have you looked at the plugs? I would expect them to be black.

I wouldn't use the float level to adjust the mixture.

Or there could be a bubble trapped where in some hose routings it ends up on the top and partially limits the fuel flow.

Or the new filter might not have enough flow capacity.

have you determined presence of fuel and level in bowls using the clear tube method?

Well, 17mm would be float-level IF flow-rate from petcock can keep up. No one knows exactly how much petcock is actually flowing.

Here’s how to test and measure petcock. Engineers didn’t come with this just for fun. The numbers make a difference and pinpoints what’s wrong. And tells you exactly how to fix it.
