Just a little preview, I put some work in last night with painting and ended up finishing around 0300 this morning. The paint cap was misleading, I was hoping for a dark grey..ended up with silver..Still looks decent in my opinion. I've decided to keep the original paint of the tank for now. I've still got to sand the clear-coat, and add pinstripes in certain areas to define the line. Still waiting on rearsets and other bits!

Still no word on the dogbones!

So for a little update on budget with the build, All in, I've spent around $1600. That includes buying the bike, registration, insurance for the full year, new tires, supplies, exhaust, and other parts. Once I order the fork springs and some other bits, should be right around 2k. Not too shabby!

^ that's pretty incredible. You've got a lot of skill and drive to achieve what you have so far.

What you're doing with the camera there makes your bike look like a toy!

Still looking good. $2k including the bike sounds like a fantastic deal!

I also have feelings about the depth of field, but to each his own.

Yep, it definitely was an awesome deal. The bike didn't have a chain when we picked it up, so my buddy and I had to throw a chain on the bike in the previous owners driveway!

I only blurred the background because I didn't want people seeing how cluttered my garage is, I'm ashamed

Here's one a friend edited for me with less blur! Keep in mind, I still haven't added the finishing touches (polished clear-coat,etc)

So..No real updates yet with throwing parts on. Rearsets should be here by next weekend.

Still waiting on dogbones from http://burkhartcycle.com/store/index...dex&cPath=7_34 It's been nearly a month since I ordered them. I called and no one answered, as well as emailed with no response. I'm about ready to contact paypal for a refund and try and find a shop who can whip some up for me..

Why wait? If it's been that long, time to get your money back.

I opened ticket with paypal, hopefully my issue will be resolved soon.

What's the verdict on the universal clamp kickstand?

Bike looks good. Fwiw, I'd paint the tank to match the scheme now, but not trying to take away from what you have, it's awesome.

One thing. Please please please don't leave the horn off if you're riding on the street. I'm a licensed road racer, and have also ridden on the street for 30 years, and when I'm on the street I ride with my thumb hovering over the horn button. Every street rider should assume they're invisible to cars and be ready to blast the horn when it turns out to be the case.

Thanks for the input I'm on the fence about painting the tank, I loathe painting with a passion lol.

In terms on the horn, I completely understand where you're coming from. I've been riding for over 3 years, and in LA traffic no less. I've just learned that a quick Brapp > horn when dealing with drivers in LA.

I had a little free time between classes last week and thought I'd run a quick sketch. I'm currently playing with the idea of making a new tail. Should take me about a day to crank out if I decide to do it. I'm not really getting what I want from the stock race tail; too wide when compared to the front fairings and just doesnt "feel" right in terms of looks.

Hopefully I'll get the correct hardware for the gsxr shock swap soon. On another note, I just received my dogbones

I'll leave a rough sketch of what the tail may look like!
(I don't have photoshop, and I dont really have an idea of what I want from other bikes...hence the paint sketch)

I'm not sure it fits your personal feel, but Hiroshi Aoyama's 250GP tail popped into my mind:

Hmm, definitely dig Aoyama's 250gp! I may take a little something from that and add it into my design. I want a slightly, higher, rounded tail. Thanks for the idea!

Oh, and here's a few shots of my friends Ninja 300, with a more street-freindly fairing set from Tyga. He goes by Atticus27 on the kawasakininja300 forum.

I took a "break" from writing papers and decided to get some cutting in. Tail is now chopped! Here's a before and after photo, as well as a older Windows paint edit of what I was thinking in terms of design for the tail! Obviously it wont be as long anymore.

So I just received my "Moth" rearsets after waiting a month.. I open the package to find rearsets that do not fit my 08. I specifically asked the seller before purchasing if they would fit properly. Now, I have come to find out that I also have to pay for shipping back; as well as wait for the seller to receive my item, before being refunded.

All I can say is, don't order these rearsets. I just wasted a month+ waiting for rearsets that aren't the proper fitment, after specifically asking if they were. Not to mention being out $70 for shipping because ebay wouldn't step in and help me get the seller to pay partial shipping for their mistake.

More pix. I had to cut the kickstand stop on bracket so the stand will rotate further forward when in extended position. Potential concerns I need to address later on. The bracket is slightly taller than swingarm, may slide in rubber material where clamp encloses the swingarm upper/lower surfaces. Upper chain may interfere with upper part of the bracket when it is rotating and deflecting. Also will be cutting off the kickstand retrieval hoop, it will be scraping at lean angle.

Once I find some rubber material to slide in between the upper/lower bracket and swingarm, it will be sturdy. The weight of the bike is not an issue yet, but only time will tell. For what I need it for, it will do the job, I don't foresee the bike being exclusively weighted on kickstand. I rear stand it at home.

Looks really good though! Does it feel like it would be a pain to kick out while being in that position? Yeah, I have a feeling that you and I would have the same amount of actual kickstand time on it.

The kickstand being so far back, dismounting the bike to extend/kick kickstand is easier so I don't think it will be an issue.

If you're referring to my friends fairings(including the windscreen), I believe the rough cost was $450 without shipping. Shipping took around 3 weeks for him as well.

My fairings (including the windscreen) were right around $330 including shipping, but the quality of the fiberglass from his far surpasses mine.

I might add that he also has to custom fabricate some lens cutouts for the headlights.

Yeah, sorry i was referring to your buddies 300. 450 is not bad at all. Did he have to drill them up specifically for his 300? Im very interestedddd!

Yep, he had to create custom mounting brackets just like me. He has never done anything like this before, so I had to instruct him on how to put most of it together. It's been a fun and creative process. Especially since I only had a hand in designing the brackets and mounting points. He basically did all the hands-on work on his own since I was building mine. We'll probably get a pic of both of our bikes together in a month or so.

I think he'll be throwing a build thread up eventually on the forum that he frequents. Keep an eye out for posts by Atticus27 on the Kawasaskininja300 forum. He still has to create the headlight lenses out of plexiglass, but he's been riding it around the greater LA area with no issues.

I just realized that I haven't really made an update on the project as of late. I've been bogged down by a stack of papers I procrastinated on, mixed with family issues.

Here's a photo of the pre-mold new tail, I still have some sanding and tweaking to do before I lay the fiberglass down. I cleaned up the stock headers as well!
Hopefully a different set of rearsets I ordered will be delivered in a few weeks.

I most likely failed a midterm today, blew off some steam by working on the tail a bit. The shape is designed for a possible undertail exhaust idea that I've been toying with. I've got a guy who did the exhaust on my Aprilia that could bend me a pipe. I may have one fabricated later on this year.

The tail is still rough, so I'm still working on it. I should be able to fiberglass it by this weekend. Once I make this mold, I'll most likely make another tail. This will be my first time working with gel-coat instead of having it done. So I don't mind if my first tail doesn't come out perfect. It'll serve as a learning experience.
