Thumbs up

Once upon a time, when I was 20 I was in college, more for social reasons I think. Of course, I knew everything, my parents were idiots to even suggest that I might not have a clue!!!! And I made sure to tell them that.

Moved out at about 18 because of course, they knew nothing and anything they ever said might as well of been a terrorist threat in which I would surely react by doing the exact opposite.

Left college when I married a person who fascinated me though I don't know why. He has the IQ of a door knob.

After that great idea, I finally decided that everything had to change, so I changed it.

In retrospect, I absolutely put all time and energy into battling my parents. Why they did not kill me is still a question I ask my dad to this day. Mom is not here so I can't ask her.

My parents are phenomenal people, we did not want or need for anything.

Moral of my story........

Shut up and listen. Observe, and learn. Take what works and leave what doesn't.

Most important is you understand and cherish your parents, enjoy them, learn from them. Nobody in this world wants better for you than them.

You have no idea what I would give for just 1 more day to be with my mom.

My life is fine now, so Just listen and learn. at 20 NOTHING IS OUT OF REACH.

Sorry for the longness of this response, ( I could have written forever on this question ) Instead you get the highlights.

Oh and read the book ' the power of now' by Eckhart Tolle.

Well he won't get anywhere in life by staying in bed. He needs to get out of his parents house and do something. Anything.

I joined the Air Force at age 18. We didn't get paid a lot back then (entered in 1990) but it turned out to provide a good life for me. I stayed in 20 years, retired, and now doing the same thing in jeans and a T-shirt as a civilian.

The pay still isn't great starting out but it's higher than minimum wage. There are ways to enter as an E-3 that I've lost touch with but even if you enter as an E-1, you'll get $1566 base pay per month. That's only about $9 per hour but keep in mind you eat at the dining facility for free and you wouldn't be paying for the roof over your head (dormitory with your own room). As you get older and venture out to get your own place, you'll get $368 per month for food allowance and you'll get paid a housing allowance which is dependent on your location. For example, if you are stationed at Eglin AFB in Florida and move off base as an E-3, you'd get $1077 per month additional. E-3 pay is $1963 per month. Add your food allowance and housing allowance, and suddenly the pay looks pretty good at $3408 per month which is just over $40k per year! Sheesh, no wonder all the young guys on base are driving new cars. Ha!

The military has its frustrations like any other job but if you stay out of trouble, it can be very rewarding. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
