Hi Jeff, it's good to meet you. Sorry I don't know about the tail, but I'm sure someone here will. When you have other questions, just ask.

Welcome!

Get a service manual and start checking things. Change the fluids. Paint marks on some of the more important bolts (like engine mounts) and check them periodically to make sure they aren't coming loose.

Looking forward to some mods to this bike. Exhaust, suspension etc. Whoever built it did a nice job with the subframe. One weird item that came with the bike is an extra fuel tank with a strange compartment fabricated into the top of it right behind the fuel cap, has a hole on the bottom of the compartment to route something. Can't figure out for the life of me what it is for. I'll post pictures tonight. Maybe someone could help me identify.

Welcome, Jeff!

That seat and tail section looks to be off a R1. Has the mount point under the seat been "modified?" And that seat cowl doesn't look stock either, looks aftermarket. I see tons and tons of bikes, take a few more pics and I will be able to identify it.

Good luck with the bike.

I'm waiting for someone who's seen something like this before to explain it to both of us. Is there a hose attached to the hole, underneath the compartment? If so, where does it lead?

It looks a little like it was used as an ashtray.

That's a compartment for running drugs!!! It's missing cover that makes it look like normal tank. If you get pulled over by cops and searched, you can push hidden button that dumps contents into tank where they're dissolved completely and no trace or evidence left behind!!!
