Fender eliminator

Since I can't ride the bike yet, I'm thinking of adding on some basic mods.
Which fender eliminator kit do you have?
where to get one?
price?
pics if possible.

Thanks all.

I have an early version of the Targa kit. The one with the non-DOT approved turn signals. Shortly after I got mine Targa came out with a kit that uses the stock signals. If you end up getting a Targa fender kit, make sure to get the one that uses the stock signals. The Targa signals are smaller and may look sleeker, but they are really cheaply made and may cause problems at inspection time.

I got the BikeLitez with LED blinkers and LP light.

I went and saw my bike yesterday and it looks AWESOME with this kit. I'll take my own pics when I get it back.

I've also got the TARGA stock signal kit and it was a nice, easy install. I was interested in the BikeLitez SS kit, but was worried about the legality in my region. I took the pictures posted earlier to my local police station and they said that I would most likely get pulled over for it. What the police officer told me was that they license plate should be more perpendicular to the ground.

I have the targa and I think its a POS for how much it cost. The pieces that surround the brake light have a huge gap all the way around. Not to mention the LP light it came with died out after a couple weeks. Maybe I'm just anal about the gaps, but for $100 I would expect a better set up. I've always liked the competition werkes one a lot better and they're roughly the same price but I had shipping issues getting ahold of one of those. I'm going to replace my targa one with the a-tech one. Its pretty pricey but definitely worth it to give your bike that clean look.

i just did a home-made one cut the original fender off with a saw and then used two l-brackets... check out the threads on the show off your fender chops in kawiforums or even in this one and you'll get some cool ideas from people... it cost me all in all about 8 bucks cuz i had to get my friend a new blade for his saw after we were done...

Thumbs up Best Fender Eliminator, here?

I found the perfect Eliminator Kit to my likings, about 100$ shipped, pretty simple but definitely love the finish. Comes with interchangeable license plate brackets. And best of all, precision cut cast aluminum made in 1 piece.

+1

But best of all, it is made in 1 piece:

IMO, the best fender eliminator is a free fender eliminator.

Gah, I forgot to add the poll. To each their own. I personally don't like the Comp Werks FE because it requires cutting (correct me) and it has the stainless steel finish. I would much rather have a no-cut kit like this one that would provide me with the ultimately clean finish. And also would save the OEM fender to make sure the resale value doesn't drop because of an irreversible mod. This one also provides riders to use all OEM turn signal and plate light.

Josh, I use the cargo hooks a good bit too, which is why I like my DIY that looks almost exactly like the one the OP posted; still have my rear stock flashers and LP light.

Jon, That's a really nice unit. I like its user friendliness---totally agree that saving the original fender can be a plus. Since I use my bike as a Sport Touring bike, I kept the rear fender but cut off about two inches off the bottom--getting rid of that ghastly reflector. I found a red bicycle reflector (stock on most bikes) and put it on the fender. The reason I kept the fender was to prevent splashing on my saddle bags in the rain. I relocated my turn signals to the left and right of the license plate bracket (The stock wires are long enough) This allowed me to use larger saddle bags. The reflectors were replaced by slightly smaller ones which I put into the holes left behind by the turn signals. The saddle bags, tail bag, and tank bag are always on the bike, so replacing the rear reflectors was just a matter of satisfying the law. I have to admit that I had some doubts at first, but this little bike makes a damned good touring machine. I appreciate this bike the more I ride it. The only other mod besides a ZG Touring windscreen, was a 15T Sprocket (Vive la differance!) I am fortunate not to live in Montreal----the French cooking would turn me into a fat person in a very short time. I am, however, not that far away. Love that city and the people---helps that I speak French.

Fender Eliminator Question

Hey guys, I've been looking to do the fender eliminator, since I got my bike a couple of weeks ago. The targa seems like the best way to go, I don't want to get involved with cutting anything.

I found this online tonight and I'm just wondering, it seems so cheap, next to the usual $90-$105 for a Targa. http://www.powersedge.com/pages/cata...-brackets.aspx

I understand it doesn't include turn signals, I plan on keeping the stock turn signals so they match the front, and I know it also doesn't include the license plate light, but to be honest I'm not worried about that at the moment. I don't see any night riding in my near future. I will probably pick up one of these though:
http://www.powersedge.com/pages/cata...ense-lamp.aspx

So my two questions are, any idea why this is so cheap, and when I get the license plate light (bolt), should I get 1 or 2?

Thanks!

I have the Targa fender eliminator kit installed on mine, and there is defiantly a difference in quality that i have seen. The beautiful thing about Targa is that it is a American company and all the parts are made in America. Even though i own a over seas bike i try to support American products as much as i can. As for the actually kit, It comes with alot of extras that you can't just buy. The bracket is solid the plastic pieces that come with it are cut to fit.

It is a great product and i think you can't really go wrong.

honestly jon, don't waste ur money. you can modify the stock fender and get a really clean look. just think about what you're going to do before you start removing material and you'll be fine. take your time, and you'll get good results. FREE IS GOOD!!

Thanks for the input, but I really thing cutting the fender is kind of a hack job, plus you still have that ugly plate light. I also want to keep the stock parts.

1. cause it's only a bracket, not a fender eliminator kit.

2. get 2.

But how is it not a fender eliminator. It seems like I can remove the ugly fender and then screw this bracket into the undertail.

I hear the Targa has gaps around the tail light. That might be cool for you but I'm kind of a perfectionist so I didn't buy it. I would just take a dremel tool to it. I cut mine off under the license plate and it looks good but I'm going to cut it even higher when I get the time to. I don't like the big fat license plate light being there. I hear most of the fender eliminators that fit good you have to cut the stock fender regardless. What I've seen is that most fender eliminators are nice L brackets withe a plate holder and lights lol. If you want it to be super clean I'd go with an under tail kit from hot bodies or elsewhere.

I have the Targa, and I wish I'd researched it more, and gone with something else. Plastic side panels, don't fit the bracket, and the included tag light burned out within a week.

My advice... find something with with an LED tag light, that is of better quality. And expect to pay $100. (Or... completely fab it yourself. It's just a bracket, for God's sake!)

I have Ride Engineering, there is a gap around the bottom of the light, which makes the tail end more angular looking. I didn't care for it much at first but now I love it. It is 1 solid metal piece and the directions suck. I used double stick tape and small led light to illuminate my license plate. Now thinking of it I should have done a DIY on it considering I did take it apart twice to get the alignment correct
http://www.ride-engineering.com/prod...pn=KA-LPH28-BA

The gap is much smaller now, this was before I adjusted it for the 2nd time. You can see how it doesn't mold around the tail light and the cute lil LED.
