Improperly disengage clutch ~ revs high, lower speed.
I kept wondering why I rev high and yet the speed doesn't justify with it. 100km/h for 8.5k on 6th. 140km/h for 13.5 on 6th.
So I ask my buddy on his green ninja what's his rev on 100km/h? he told that its around 7-7.5k. Then i checked with 250r maintenance book (courtesy from kkim ) ... i found that my clutch lever isn't properly fixed. the clutch did not disengage properly, leading to higher revs but didn't deliver the speed. I fix as per instructed and now the bike cruising 7.5k on 100km/h..... after 14 months had her!. so you guys better check what ever mentioned in the Ninja book. |

i just got back from a 30~40 Km ride and noted that i have the same issue (problem?) when im in 6th gear and going 100 Kmh, the rpm reads between 8500 to 9000. i thought this was normal? im not a heavy guy, about 62 Kg, which is around 130 pounds i think.
it was a little windy, but it wasn't like a 100mph head wind or anything, lol any tips as to what page in the service manual i need to look into, or if there is a simple way to see if the clutch is fully engaged when i release it? i do have this feeling that the RPM doesn't rise very linearly to the speed. |

The manual at that link is for the FI bike, not the carbureted one.
Here's the one for the US bikes: http://www.scribd.com/doc/15021361/K...ervice-Manual2 |

lever not adjusted properly? you mean the lever should have about 2-5mm of free play?

just twist the screw towards the lever not the other way. make sure the locking screw and the cable screw meet close together.

i played around with the clutch cable on the steering wheel end, and there has not been any change. there is about 3~5 mm of free play, which should be right.
im wondering if my Speedo is calibrated differently...? i checked it out again yesterday, cruising at 100 Km/h in 6th gear, with no strong wind, the bike is doing 8500 Rpm... im still 1000 Rpm over the norm it seems. i haven't done any mods. all stock, almost 2000 Km done with lots of oil + filter changes during the break in. any way to know if the clutch is engaging properly when fully released besided the speed/rpm thing? taking off the engine/clutch plate cover is also a little out of the question, since it might be nothing. |

i way to know is 1) the shift from 1 to 2 is smooth and not as loud as before 2) you can feel that the momentum when the clutch is released. 3) you could also see the speed - rev is relative. btw, it is also possible that the speedo - tachometer need to be calibrated or replaced. there's a case here and it's the instrument defect. generally, you don't have to rev or stress the engine just to cruise 100km/h. right? this time try to use human intuition |
