Rebuilt carb and no start
Okay, so...
Bike would run for about 5 minutes and die. I have rebuilt the carbs and got a new petcock, put new gas in and it will not start. My guess is that the new petcock(which is not OEM) is not creating big enough of a vacuum. Any direction is greatly appreciated. I just want the bike to run again. Also, any tips for getting rust out of the inside of the gas tank. |

Or if this is an aftermarket vacuum petcock you can just suck on its vacuum line with your mouth to test its flow. And if it's not a vacuum petcock, just open it and see if it flows fuel. My guess is that something is wrong in the carbs, but that's just speculation. Welcome to the board, Gabe! |

Hi Gabe and welcome to Ninjette!
Hmmm, 5-minutes is an odd number. Let's do some testing to get some data: 1. Run bike with gas-cap off. Does it run for more than 5-minutes? 2. Disconnect fuel-hose from carb-inlet and aim into measuring cup. Run bike for 30-seconds and stop. How much petrol did you collect in measuring cup? |

Can't do either of these because as of now the bike doesn't run. It ran for 5 mins before I rebuilt the carbs because that's what everyone i talked to told me to do. I am going to test the vacuum line on the petcock tonight and let y'all know. Thank you for responding. |

Gabe, did you disturb the carb synch screw during your carb work?
Where are your pilot screws set? (# of turns out from seated) Did you pull pilot jets? Any evidence of clogging? #38 pilot? Or some other #?

1. first, unscrew carb float-bowl drains. Does petrol drip out? Tighten back up. If float-bowls are dry, we can assume petcock is not working and no petrol is making it into carbs. 2. As mentioned, artificially apply vacuum to petcock by sucking on vacuum-hose, or using a syringe or vacuum-pump. Then measure petcock flow into measuring cup for 30-seconds. |

I did not touch the synch screw and pilot screws are set 2.5 turns out. I took all the jets out cleaned it with carb cleaner and ran a guitar string through all of them to make sure there is no clogs.

i hate to be the one to tell you, but reality dictates. Internal carb issues frequently require more than simply cleaning the jets. Your issues seem to be a bit deeper inside.
