New member, 1st Ninjette, it's a mess
Hi everyone, I picked up a non running 07 with 7,600 mi yesterday for $150. Previous owner purchased it in running condition but in need of tires, fairings and basic maintenance needed and proceeded to turn it into a "cafe project" ( removed lots of parts but didn't actually fix or modify anything).
Got it home, checked oil, hooked up battery, turned key and nothing. No headlight, doesn't turn over. Tested with multimeter and no power going to any fuses or ign switch, 12v is at solenoid and will turn over when shorted w screwdriver. Next obvious step is to download FSM and wiring diagram, electrical system appears to be pretty simple and straightforward, not hacked up but concerned something may be missing. Does anyone have copy of the wiring diagram saved? I haven't checked the stickies yet. Bike turns over, concussion sounds great and she doesn't look like shell need too much to be rideable. Goal for this bike is bare minimum to be used for the -450cc track days on the local kart track. Possibly 17" conversion if I come across the parts cheap or free. Anyone know how the fuse block gets its 12v? From the plug built into the solenoid, po said solenoid had been replaced already |

Greeting & Salutations Kevin!
Solenoid ONLY deals with starter, nothing else. It's at end of long chain of events which goes like this: 1. battery 2. white wire to ignition-switch 3. output wires from ignition-switch to fusebox then lights, ignitor, dash, ignition-coils, etc. Also headlight does NOT turn on when key is ON, it only turns on when engine is running. Sounds like you've got problem with white power-wire between solenoid and ignition-switch. Even though it connects to solenoid, this is just parallel Y-connection to battery +terminal. Dead solenoid will still send power to ignition-switch. Also pull every fuse and measure resistance between legs. Last futzed with by DannoXYZ; November 24th, 2019 at 11:50 PM. |
