WTB pre-gen left handlebar in SoCal TONIGHT
Hi folks, I need a STRAIGHT pre-gen left handlebar. I am willing to pick it up anywhere in SoCal this evening (2/20/13). I just need the handlebar, I have everything else. Or, I will even borrow it tonight and bring it back to you Sunday night.
Must be from 1986-2007. Newer handlebars will not fit. Please text 310-910-4565 if you have one for sale or lend. TIA! ~Jen |

Curses! I get no love. Not even from my 2 craigslist dudes who are "checking into it" for me.
If anyone's got anything I can pick up on the way out of town this afternoon I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for looking! |

I didn't know how bad it was until I took it apart, and I couldn't take it apart any sooner 'cause I was consumed planning a baby shower for one of my best friends. Believe me, it killed me to let it sit for a week!

That guy is way overpriced! I'm not going to lie, I considered just buying this bike for its handlebar...

Jen, can you fit aftermarket woodcraft clip-ons like we do on our bikes? If so, Rexbo may have a spare

I was at a point last night where I was totally willing to propose it. I think I did in my CL ad. At this point I have 2 people on CL checking their garages for the handle bar over the weekend. In the mean time I bent the bar mostly back in a vice so that it doesn't hit the tank any more when I turn left. So if someone out there has one they want to loan or sell me that I can pick up today? That'd be awesome. Otherwise I'm running what I got and I'm not gonna bitch about it (too much). This guy has everything that I need, but for some reason the parts are in the back of his son's car and they can't seem to get a hold of each other. *facepalm* http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb...599551559.html |

Still looking?
Are you still looking for a handle bar? I am parting a 95 that is going to be my track/race bike. I pulled the handle bars off today and they're solid. The left one is a little bent (barely... if I didn't tell you, you probably wouldn't have noticed, but I believe in honesty) but it isn't loose at all. I have the bar, the bar end and the bolts to mount it to your triple. I wasn't able to salvage the bolt holding the bar end on. I'll ship it to you tomorrow for $33. That is what I shipped my right side bar for.
I also have a ton of other parts available, but I am not allowed to post in the marketplace for another 29 days. Let me know. |

Left and right bars are the same, ought to double the options. Also, how badly is the bar bent? Got a picture of it with all the bits removed? Especially the base where it enters the riser? Often times bars can be easily and safely straightened if they're not too badly bent. Bars are made from plain mild steel, FWIW.

Thanks for looking out, folks! This forum rocks!
The short answer is that I'm getting a brand spankin' new bar from Ron Ayres since I had to put in a big order for clutch parts. The loooooong story is the bar was bent enough to touch (and dent) the tank. I bent it back, mostly, but the clutch perch is also bent. Also, the the metal from the bar end is smeared into the bar end screw head. I did my best work on it with my impact screw driver, but that b!tch ain't coming off without a hacksaw, which I didn't have time to do before my track day. The bent perch can't be removed without removing the bar end. I said, eff it, it's functional enough with the handlebar bent back. I switched the clutch lever out and tried to call it good. BIG FAIL. The perch is bent just enough to make the cable adjustment damn near impossible. The lever doesn't return properly, so the clutch slips. I screwed with it the best I could and then had James form CycleMall adjust it in the pits. The clutch was suspected bad when I bought the bike on New Year's, and now I've just really made sure it was good and effed. Surprisingly, RA has the best prices on clutch parts over e-bay, Amazon, Cycle Gear, etc. So I went crazy and just ordered a whole ton of shiny new parts. That way I have confidence in the fidelity of what I'm getting. Hooray for retail therapy! |

Check this out... take a drill and drill the screw head out about 3/8'' down, then use a hammer and chisel (flat head screwdriver) to pop the bar end off the handle bar. It'll come off eventually and when it does it will break the screw head off, leaving the threaded part of the screw still in the handle bar. Take two nuts and thread them onto what's left off the screw and put a wrench on the nut closest to the handle bar and loosen. It'll come right off. PB blaster helps too.
The down side is you'll need to source a new screw for the bar end, but it sounds like yours is already pretty messed up from the impact gun. |

Thanks! I do have a new bar end and screw. There's no point to saving the bent handlebar, or the bent clutch perch, so it's just gonna get added to the Wall of Shame in the garage.
