This is my 4th year cycling (1st year motorcycling!). I've got a Specialized Allez triple, which is pretty much an entry-level road bike but it's plenty for me. This will be my third year doing the National MS Society "Cape Cod Getaway," which is 150 (or 175 if you're up for it) miles over two days. I'm on a team called the Jagerdogs, which is self-described as "a drinking team with a cycling problem." My main goal is to not spend so much time with my motorcycle that my massive quads atropy.

i got a 99' GT XCR 4000 mt. bike and my first mt. bike a specialized stumpjumper 95' dont ride much anymore since i permantly separated my shoulder on my Old GT I gave to a needy friend.

I upgraded to mostly XT components, changed out the wheels to a xt in the rear and a front i cant remember what kind, picked up the front wheel in a xmas sale at ernies in canton OH when i lived there..used to ride vultures knob atleast once a week, miss those days. got a syncros seat post one of those boys saver seats, carbon fiber monkey lite bars, kept the advid v breaks they work fine.. shimanno pedals(dont like them much if i take up riding again which i plan on this summer) i will get a decent pair of clipons and do away with the cage style ones. i used to love my ritcheys.

I see you are running Zipp's. How are those? I've heard good things about them.

They solid! I highly recommend Zipps. I'm running tubulars on them and have had no problems. Great smooth ride.

I have been riding bicycles longer then any other mode of transportation. I currently have a Specialized Stumpknocker that I use to ride with the family. Now that I have a motorcycle it may not get as many miles as it used to. I enjoyed "exploring" on it, but the Ninja is now going to allow me to explore much further then before.

What series of rim are you running? I'm thinking about upgrading my Trek 1.5 later this year. I've heard that wheels make an insane difference. I just didn't know what to get. I know anything CF is good and makes a big difference. I just don't know if I can convince my wife that an upgrade to CF wheels makes a big difference.

Aren't those 404's like $2200? Crazy.

It will be hard talking her into it, but it may just be worth it. I looked up the Trek 6.9 Madone. It is amazing that 1/4 of the price of that bike are wheels and hubs alone.

lol

I was thinking about picking up a small upgrade for mine. I was looking at some Bontrager Race Lite's or Race X Lite's.

If I can find a steal for some Zipp's, I will definitely get them. I'll see what I can find online.

I have a steelwool tweed built up as a single-speed (freewheel, though I like fixed too) commuter / retro. Hmm, should take some pictures.

Gonna get a new Freeride / DH bike this year thinking Rocky Mountain Flatline or a Norco Shore One. Whistler calls...

I just sold my DB ViperX to my father in law. It looks funny as hell now. He removed the stock DB seat, and put on one of those cruiser style comfort seats that are HUGE. Hey, he is comfortable and riding it, so that is all good. I need to do something about the foot pegs though. It has pegs front and back, that just makes it look worse with him on there.

I still put more miles on my bicycles than on the Ninja. The Ninja has 9656 miles on the clock since June 08. In that same time frame, I have 11,060 miles (Combined for my five bikes) I just like riding on two wheels--motorized or not.

Amen.

I've only put on about 1000 miles on my bicycles so far this year. Not a whole lot, but still not bad.

The Ninja has about the same amount of miles added to it as well.

So what is the deal with the Brook's saddles? They seem like they would be the most uncomfortable thing on the planet, yet people swear by them. Does anyone have the key to unlock this mystery for me?

When I went to Austin the other day I noticed that MJ's carried them. They just didn't seem they could be that comfortable. I'm confused. lol

I've lost a good bit of interest in mountain biking. I'd like to start riding bicycles again but I want to learn trials. Unfortunately trials seem to be dead in the US. I'm thinking about picking up either
2010 Onza Zoot

or Ashton Diamondback

I really like the look of the Zoot and it's cheaper but the Diamondback has the front disc. The Zoot has disc mounts though so I could always upgrade.

i cracked. I shouldn't even be awake at this hour let alone buying bikes on the interwebz. I can't help it! I really want to get back in shape and get back into cycling and I think this is the only way I'm going to do it with the level of motivation I have. Onza Zoot will be on it's way to the U.S of A. at some point next week.

I think that it is a cult thing. I have been told that when a Brooks is broken in, that it is the most comfortanle saddle around. They take a long time to break in. I suppose that people like to futz with them, saddle soap them, play with the tensioners, etc. I have WTB Street Smart saddles on five of my bikes. My Univega Viva Sport (a restoration) in mint condition, has a suede Avocet saddle which rubs my crotch raw. I only put that saddle on for the classic bike meets. My dream is still to find an all chrome Schwinn Paramount with Campagnolo Nuevo Record Grouppo.

I love biking. I ride every other day if I can. My main work out bike is a Milwaukee Bicycle Company - Orange One fixed gear. The workout you can get from a fixed gear is great! Gear ratio currently is 44/16.

My bike is upgraded to the max though. Mavic rims, Sugino 75 crank, Thomson parts, Chris King parts, Ritchey WCS parts, King Ti water bottle cage, Ultegra pedals, Ultegra brakes, Cane Creek levers, Selle Italia SLR seat...

It is gun-coated and should last 3 life-times. Got it locally, wheel set hand built too. It's a little over done to be honest, but I love it.

I am so proud of myself. I went and took a friend of mine who is a mountain biker by heart to the paved trails for a change. I took out the Trek 1.5 and the Specialized Langster. I started him out on the Trek and cringed when I heard him grinding gears. I had to stop and instruct him again how the shifters worked. He refused to do a full shift, causing the chain to grind. We went slow and I was behind him instructing him to shift up and down. Once he seemed he was starting to get the hang of it, we picked up the pace. He really enjoyed the ride on the 1.5.

Half way into the ride, after pushing harder than he had ever been pushed, I told him that it was his turn on the fixie. He initially refused and finally gave in when I told him I'd stay behind him so he can go at his own pace. He took it for a spin and loved it.

I got a message from him and he said he just purchased a fixie from bikesdirect. He said once he gets it in, that weekend we are going for a fixie ride rain or shine. lol I think it will be another week or two before he actually gets it. He likes not needing to shift. Honestly it is great because you can enjoy the ride more not worrying about if you are in the best gear.

On the flip side, a non-fixie is better on long rides due to less power usage.

I'm just glad I opened his eyes to something.

C-Dog, I agree with a fixie being a great workout. I try to balance my fixie rides to my geared rides. They work different aspects of the muscles.
Fixie: Anaerobic exercise (for the most part)
Geared: Aerobic exercise (morso than the fixie, due to the higher cadence)
My fixie is like lifting weights, while the geared is my nice long haul, enjoyable ride.

That is really cool. Wish I had someone to ride with. If I had a nice geared road bike I'd be in heaven. My other bike is a 29er Specialized.

I try to use a higher cadence on my fixed gear. I have to maintain my speed to keep the cadence though. Thinking about switching to 44/17 to increase rpms.

Ok, at least I'm not the only person thinking about changing gearing. I run a 42/16, but have been thinking about changing the rear sprocket to a 19.

Currently I get burned out easily trying to keep the RPM's high.

It is fun to try different ratios. I'm trying to remember what Lance Armstrong used for a ratio when he went on a fixed training ride.

I would love to get a fixie. The problem here is that our area is so hilly that anything without gears would be a poor choice. Around here everyone runs a Compact or a Triple

Some of those hills I hit on the MS150 towards the end in Austin made me wish I went with a triple instead of a compact. LOL

I made it so I can't complain.

Liz, That Orbea is beautiful. Are you running SRAM Red or Dura-Ace?

I'll tell you what, since you mentioned SRAM, I love the shifters on my Hardrock Sport.

I was worried because I really did like the Shimano EF50 shifters on the Trek 3500-3900 bikes. They felt really good to me and seemed very easy to operate. After running the trails on the Specialized Hardrock 29er, I'm totally sold on the SRAM X4-R trigger shifters. Those are just thumb shifters. It made my ride so much easier. Plus I could cover the brakes and still shift. That is the numero uno thing I like about them.

And Michael, muscle is heavy to pedal, but looks better than fat while peddling! lol
