[motorcycle.com] - Nitro World Games Adds Rallycross and FMX Quarterpipe

Nitro World Games continues to add disciplines, looking more like an X Games alternative each year.

Begin Press Release:

NITRO WORLD GAMES RETURNS TO SALT LAKE CITY WITH EXCITING NEW COMPETITION DISCIPLINES

NITRO RALLYCROSS AND ALL-NEW FMX QUARTERPIPE TO DEBUT

Los Angeles, CA – The world’s premier action sport competition is heading back to Salt Lake City in 2018 with the exciting addition of two new sport disciplines! Coming off tremendous success in years one and two – the 3rd annual Nitro World Games will boast yet further progression in motorized competition with the addition of Nitro Rallycross (NRX), the debut of FMX Quarterpipe and the return of FMX Best Trick. The action is coming to Utah Motorsports Campus on 22 & 23 September 2018. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 22 at 10:00AM MST and will be available at Ticketmaster.

Nitro Rallycross
Rallycross may be new to Nitro World Games, however rally racing is certainly not new to the 4-wheel motorsports world. To attract some of the biggest names in the sport, Nitro Rallycross has developed a unique and innovative all-new track layout like no other. The world’s best drivers will battle for the top spot on a challenging, purpose-built, permanent track at Utah Motorsports Campus.

Nitro Rallycross has already attracted some of the biggest names of the sport including Scott Speed, Ken Block, Steve Arpin, Mattias Ekstrom and Travis Pastrana himself, all fighting for a podium spot in the competition.

“I understand racing and I understand jumping. With the help of Ken Block and industry experts Nitro will build a track that allows the best drivers to soar to new heights,” said Travis Pastrana on the addition of NRX at Nitro World Games. “With that experience and Nitro World Games’ strong track record for safety and innovation, drivers will be able to push their vehicles and progress the sport.”

More details on race formats, course design and drivers are set to be announced in the coming weeks.

FMX Quarterpipe
Also new to Nitro World Games is the FMX Quarterpipe competition. The NWG Quarterpipe is a one of a kind, mechanical ramp that allows the degree of takeoff and landing to be adjusted. Standing 32 feet tall and 70 feet wide, this set up gives riders a massive area of operation and allows them to push hard and shoot higher than ever before. With a set-up that is nearly double the size of anything else out there, this innovative quarterpipe is going to leave fans speechless as the world’s best FMX athletes attempt to break into new heights.

The FMX Quarterpipe competition will see eight riders invited to compete. Each will have two attempts to clear the baseline starting height before it is raised to a higher level. The height will be increased until there are only two competitors left who will go head to head in the finals. The rider who is then able to clear the highest mark will become champion. Who is willing to push the limits?

FMX Best Trick
After wowing the world in year one and year two, FMX Best Trick will return to Nitro World Games in Salt Lake City. With numerous world’s firsts landed in the FMX Best Trick discipline thus far, including Gregg Duffy’s double frontflip in 2016 and Harry Bink’s frontflip rock solid in 2017, the competition will be steep heading in to this year’s contest. Formatting will remain the same as years past where each athlete will get two attempts to execute the best trick of their choice, with judges scoring tricks in real-time. Who will take home the trophy this year?

About Utah Motorsports Campus
Utah Motorsports Campus is one of the premier facilities in the industry. It has hosted some of the most prestigious car and motorcycle racing series in the world, including the Pirelli World Challenge and the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) National Championship for cars, as well as the MotoAmerica Superbike Challenge for motorcycles. The facility also fosters the growth of motorsports with a variety of other professional and amateur racing series. Located just a short drive from downtown Salt Lake City, Utah Motorsports Campus has been an integral part of the state’s sports culture and motorsports scene for over a decade.

About Nitro World Games
Created by Nitro Circus and action sports icon Travis Pastrana, Nitro World Games pushes the limits of action sports competition. Featuring new big air formats, breakthrough ramp technology and innovative judging criteria, Nitro World Games shifted the landscape for both athletes and the industry alike in its 2016 debut. Over 25,000 people saw it all go down live in Salt Lake City, while viewer numbers for its live TV broadcast surpassed all expectations and Nitro Circus’ global livestream reached a hungry audience worldwide.

Now, with the addition of Nitro Rallycross and FMX Quarterpipe, Nitro World Games is set to revolutionize action sports competition once again. Further announcements regarding BMX, Skate and Scooter are coming soon, as well as more details on how fans outside of Salt Lake City can watch the action.

Nitro World Games 2018 sponsors include the Utah Sports Commission, Red Bull, Kevlar, Yokohama, United States Air Force, Subaru and Volkswagen.

Jeff Robbins, president and CEO of the Utah Sports Commission said, “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with one of the top action sports events in the world, the Nitro World Games, that also brings significant economic impact and extensive international exposure to our great State.”

“We are so excited to team up with Red Bull for Nitro Rallycross,” said Travis Pastrana. “The years of experience in the sport they bring to the table validates our vision for the best rallycross event in the world.”

“We’re pleased to continue our partnership with Nitro World Games in 2018 and especially excited to be able to showcase our product this year,” said Andrew Briggs, Yokohama Tire, Vice President of Marketing. “We’ve got a great history and a lot of experience in Rallycross and will be bringing the ADVAN A054 as the official spec tire for the NRX competition. Our tire, combined with these drivers on Nitro’s track, is going to make for some great racing.”
