Rojo is running an R6 front wheel with custom spacers to allow him to use the stock forks. But this means he can run a 120 super sticky SS tire up front. So essentially, yes it's been done.

These bikes don't have the guts to spin up the rear, so a little harder/longer wearing tire is a great idea in the back. But the front does more work because the bike has no guts, so a sticky one up there is a good thing. I say go for it!

Any word on if the Michelin's are back? I've got about 1-2k left on my rear before I'll be in the market again.

If i recall seeing on one site they are looking between early sept. on the front and mid sept. on the rear.
I'll probably pick another rear tire once they get back in stock for this winter when i'll need to change it.

thank you for the info, I'll be picking up another rear as well so I know I can stay with the tire when it's time to switch it out

I think I'll be switching to the pirelli for the front when the time comes though but the front tire isn't showing much wear on my 300

I sowwy, I read it when you posted it but forgot some of the important details over time. Was focused more on the tire life than the front end setup.

Though I suppose I should start getting more interested in the front end setup as well since I'm considering re-doing the front suspension on my N250 over the winter and possibly switching up to 17" tire sizes

I'd totally rock those as some track tires

If I could figure out a way to buy the Michelins and get the Rossos to you without digging myself into too deep of a financial hole, you'd have a deal. Alas, you're across the country.

it's ok, I haven't switched the pregen front end/rear swingarm to the newgen parts for access to 17" wheels yet so they'd have to go on the 300 which isn't allowed on track until I modify it a bit to make it more suited to ride track (track only fairings, lowered bars, proper rearsets...I'd already have it done if I didn't have my 250 to whip around the track on)

I'm looking at somewhere around 5-6k on my michelins. The front looks to be experiencing an odd wear pattern (the wear on each side of the crevices is different, the front part of it is wearing a lot slower but because it's so uneven now is starting to break up to make up for it...I'll get a pic when it's not raining) and the rear is about half life or so, solid wear with a slight flat spot because the primary use is commuting and I hop on the beltway to get to where most of my friends live. The rear unlike the front is wearing predictably without any oddities.

So the front is scalloping or cupping? I had that issue with the front BT45 when I was using that. Similar tread pattern IIRC

As I was sitting on the asphalt in front of my bike changing my socks, yeah I know random right? I noticed my tread depth on my front tire(Pirelli race tire) is almost completly gone. Strangely enough the depth is almost universally even all around so I hadn't noticed. The front still has a good aggressive profile vs my rear which is heading toward squaresville. Looks like I'll be needing to grab both front and rear this time around but after this many miles I can't even begin to complain.

I guess ill order a new rear and start asking around at the track for another decent takeoff for the front.

pretty much, it's very consistent. Every time there is a gap for rain tread the tire is lower on the side that comes into contact with the road last...that is to say the side that is higher when sitting has a noticeable amount less rubber than the side that is lower when sitting

I might get this for the rear eventually. Definitely sounds like a good option. I wanted to try out having both front and rear PR4's to see how that is first, but that might be a while from now because I'm not riding enough.

That's normal for any tire with high mileage and poor suspension I think.

How's this for cupping? Yes it's there, no it doesn't make a difference I still can't break traction or feel anything mid corner.

Here's Ed Sorbo's response when I posted the picture earlier this week.

13,500 miles so far and I've still got about .040-.050" to the top of the wear bars and probably a full .100" till they're slicks. My race front tire is way passed the wear bars and most of the tread pattern is gone completely(look like a slick). I may toss on an old used front just to kill the rest of this rear before going with a new front and rear.

Excellent. Saw the Pilot Streets at a local shop on sale (sales creature said they sell them at $1 over cost to try to stay competitive with online shops) so they are definitely going on next go round. I'd love to get 13k out of a rear!

Thanks for keeping us updated on these, really helps out!

Yeah like I said, I looks like a problem but don't worry about and and just keep riding because it won't make a difference. My front looked similar but now that their slicks you can't tell anymore

@rojoracing53, do you have a suggestion for a tire similar to the Michelin PS Radial for pre-gens? The Commander is the only tire Michelin even offers in 130/90-16, at least in new stock.

Some info here:

https://www.ninjette.org/wiki/Tire_options_-_pregens

The most recently released tire for the pre-gens was the Pirelli Scooter Diablo; it still seems to get positive reviews.

Sorry but I doubt the Commander is anything like the PS radial since they call one out as a cruiser(Harley) tire and the other a sport touring. I can't recommend Harley tires to anyone. You 16" guys are just totally F***ed when it comes to tires with higher end performance and life.

I'm running the diablo scooter tires on my pregen at the track, I'm a bit underwhelmed by them but accept that they're the best I can get for 16" wheels. My michelins have more grip and wear better. I'm looking forward to doing a 17" wheel conversion on my pregen to get proper tires on there

Noticed I'm a couple hundred shy of 10k today so snapped pictures of my tires. Moderate riding style, mainly highways, about 30% curves.

I'm not seeing any noticeable flat parts on the front, but I can get a more angled pictute if you want. I can just barely see the flat center on the rear. I tried feeling for the crest between the edge and center on the rear with my hand and couldn't find the edge.

Neither are as flat as my Pirelli or Bridgestone tires got after only 5k. Very impressed with this tire!

I passed on the Pilot Streets and maybe now am not so happy I did lol. I picked up a set of 110/140 Stones, the new S20 Evo. With the tire sale and rebate I paid literally $160 for a set.

I spent $235 on my set but when you factor in the distance your getting out of a set you save a ton of money by not having to buy more sets of tires.

My 250 is having it's 7500 mile service at the dealer and I'm having a Michelin Pilot Road II front tire put on while it's there. I currently have the pilot road II 150/60 ZR 17 on the rear. Rides fantastic.

That line is a static earthing strip. you see this in newer tires with mixed silicon compounds that generate static electricity.
