250r Project; Operation Street Fighter

First of all, I <3 Haters.
Second of all, I'm new to motorcycle modification. That's why I'm here ^_^
I've been on the forum for about half an hour and have already perused some WICKED projects and am stoked to get into this.

I'm starting out with my 2009 Special Edition Green Ninja 250R.
I've got a Two Brothers V.A.L.E Aluminum Black series slip on with a green bolt kit.
I've stripped all the fairing (minus the rear end, which i'm considering giving a coat of paint at the very least.)
Cosmetically, Im planning on:
-Bar end mirrors
-Fork Clamp Bars
-Dominator style Headlights
-Speedo&tach replacement (Oil pressure/neutral light(s) really necessary?)
I'm aiming for bare bones weight saving functionality and nekked badassery.
Initially, I'm hoping to stay away from too many expensive 'Steal me' Bells and whistles such as new levers, pegs, oil caps etc. as funds are short.
But this is where I'll be posting as I go! Wish me luck
*scared shitless* teejay
PS. Dont tell my old man. He'll flip ****.

Is that like TeeJay from TJ Hooker? So are you like a *** job hooker? Whatever that is? lol... Just kidding...

Welcome aboard! We have some pretty exceptional builds on this thread by @Chicagobob, @rabies, @Racer x and @Ivanrules just to name a few. They have all done exceptional jobs converting their bikes into street fighters/bonnie racer/cafe racer. Good luck!

TJ Hooker, sounds like a tranny... just kidding??
Nah, it's Tylerjohn.

And the foam/fiberglass work that @Ivanrules has done blew me away when I saw it. Definitely inspired the thought of possibly fabricating a custom ass end. I just have to mention @skilletmo and his bike. That's what i envision having coming to fruition this season, if not part-way. I live too far north for any riders good and am lucky to get 6 months of riding time a year, so I'll have oodles of time come the winter to glass/sand and paint.

Mainly Farkles for the time being ;P
where did that term come from anyway?

Awesome… love it when people get passionate about this kind of thing.

Thread worthless without pics.

Like so many here I've fantasized about building something along these lines. For me, it's a cafe racer… I love the aesthetic. But I've done enough of this sort of thing that I know that it always costs twice as much, takes three times as long and is four times as frustrating as you think it will be.

To keep us mere mortals grounded in reality, what would be really, REALLY useful is a running log of both the things that are going right and what's going wrong. Let your experience teach the rest of us and show us the pitfalls.

Consider it a service to humanity….

You and me both! I'm just trying to scrounge up the cash to get started on just such a project.

Well yeah, but I'm dumb enough to think that it won't happen this time.

OP:

Please keep us updated with what's going on!

^^Agreed.

When I looked at getting new parts and thinking it would be plug and play, oh was I wrong. It was almost 97% always something I would have to fix or modify to get that piece on correctly or to make it work. Hopefully you have patience and knowledge about bikes, there's a lot of that (knowledge) on this forum that you will learn from!

Always look on eBay for good deals. Pretty much everything from China is pretty good until the item is worth more then 40$ (bar ends, levers, tank pads,etc...) , then go with high quality parts. I learned that the hard way with a 100$ Chinese Speedo that was trash. Got a legit Speedo from trail text and works perfect and a lot less complicated. Scratched fairings are a lot cheaper (50%-60%) and are perfect if your going to paint your bike anyway, Which I did.

It will be worth it at the end. Having your own custom bike that turns heads and gets asked a lot about. Also by you doing this you will know the inside and outside of your bike as most people don't..

Please post pictures and I hope everything works well, can't wait to watch and help on this project!

Im looking forward to your build. Remember, build it for your approval and not anyone else's. I am glad to have joined this forum because during my build a lot of people here helped me by giving me ideas and their opinions, take them they are free ;D
Good luck!
