To the members in Japan...

I hope all of you are ok after the 8.8 quake in northern Japan. I just saw footage of the tsunami sweeping through the coastal region and it is heartbeaking. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who is affected.

They also issued tsunami watch for Hawaii and talk of possibly a watch for California coast lines.

+1 all, stay safe.

kkim, they've issued an evacuation order for Hawaii. Make your way to a safe area.

just got home from work. I'm good, as my home is 500ft above sea level and 5 miles from the ocean. I'm way outside of the inundation zone.

having been through hurricane Iniki here, we're always prepared to live with only the basics of life here on kauai.

you good? stay safe, man.

we're safe down here...hawaii won't see anything much..

Wake Island experienced a wave with an amplitude of 0.39 meters (1.3 feet) at 11:28 p.m. Hawaii time and Saipan was hit with a 0.65-meter (2.1-foot) wave at 11:16 p.m. Hawaii time.

soo..hawaii will get a 3 foot wave...

like I said, I hope it's a dud, but what would you have done if you were in power and had to make the decisions? I'm sure you would prepare for the worse and hope for the best.

if anyone is interested, live streaming from the one of the local tv stations... broadcasting live, waiting for what effects this will have here.

I'm guessing you didn't see the news coverage in Japan. The tsuanmi there was devastating and they had little warning. I'm glad that the tsuanmi in Hawaii wasn't anything too serious.

oh i watched it, and that truly sucks..we are still waiting to hear back from relatives in japan.

and i would def rahter be safe than sorry..but the news here kinda gets amped up about it and causes some light mayhem. due to the massive amount of tech we have..you can go on and watch bouys across the pacific and calculate wave size and strength...

everyone may not understand it..but they should explain better the possible outcomes and then do some calming. i'm not trying to sound smug..i have sandbags ready for this stuff, dry ammo, dry food, water, water pur tabs, life jackets, wetsuits, and so on lol

i'm def over prepared..don't let my calm, somewhat meh wording disguise my running aorund and making preperations for the worst lol

my apologies

japan is still getting trouble with the nuke reactor problems and such

another 6.6 earthquake just hit japan about 200 miles from Tokyo about 30 minutes ago. I've been watching the news non-stop. Japan is also dealing with a nuclear reactor overheating due to the power loss. There is also an entire city on fire right now, forgot the name but heard that it has a population of 1 million luckily they were evacuated ahead of time.

Hope all of you that are affected are safe.
Kelly might be because asphalt usually splits in the middle due to how some places lay one lane down then come back and lay the other lane down. Otherwise yeah I wonder that as well

Check out the "amazing pictures of the aftermath" link above. Our hearts and prayers to our Japanese brothers and sisters impacted by this massive earthquake. This picture really caught my attention.

Kelly, Thank God you are OK--Heard about this tragedy at "work" today and couldn't wait till I got home to get on my computer and get a SITREP from you. Have you heard from some more of our family in Hawaii?--or California? Sure hope Alex and Paulette are OK. I have still to get in touch with my daughter in San Jose--will keep trying.

Thank you, Alex, for your concern. Turn on CNN. It seems the worst of it for Hawaii and Cali seems to be boats getting pushed around in harbors causing damage.

Japan wasn't as fortunate.

This has certainly been a year for crazy weather. We got 90+ inches of snow, and have had snow on the ground since Christmas. Now we have rains like the Monsoon season and it is all melting very rapidly causing flooding, erosion, etc. The good news is that it is washing the salt off the roads and that our house is on a hill.
