take the other bolts out and take the valve cover off and use some vicegrips to remove the remaining bolt stud then replace it. if it broke off down in the threads, try using a tiny extractor bit once the head is off. if that doesnt work you'll need to drill it and retap it then stick in a helicoil. if the head is just destroyed, just cut the head off and get it to a stud then remove the rest of the bolts and take the cover off and remove it with grips.

I spent about 3 or 4 days trying to get the proper equipment to remove it from within the engine. You can remove the bracket the valve cover bolt screws into pretty easily. Held in by two bolts.

an OEM bolt is relatively cheap. around 5 bucks with shipping included.

That looks like one of the cam bearing/cap bolts. Getting the threaded end of that out is not going to be easy. Remove the cam bearing and see if you can see the threads sticking of the head.

I might have a bolt that size you can borrow until you get a replacement, if you need to get up and running this week. Otherwise you should probably just order a new one.

Maybe this will help...

I know your bolt is a lot smaller than his but still...

I don't recall the exact torque value off hand, but the cam cap bolts aren't supposed to be be torqued that much. Sorry it's such a PITA.... I've certainly been there.

Here's some ideas if you do try what they did in the video

Drop some rust penetrating oil into the hole.

Let it sit for a hour and occasionally tap (lightly) the broken bolt with a metal punch. This helps the oil get between the treads.

When you drill the bolt, measure the broken bolt so you know how deep to go without drill through the broken bolt.

Cuz, I thought you finished putting the bike together. If you finish, come out Saturday for the clean up and ride.

Have to ask, was this putting it all back together or taking it apart

Wd-40 ftw

My drill was to big.(zing) So had to pull the engine out to get a clean strait shot at the bolt. Soaked it w/40 had it over night and it came right out so easy that the bit didn't make a hole.

use a left hand drill bit GOING reverse
