Spark plug wires

Today we pulled a single spark plug wire and it tore on my buddys 1980 cb900. We went to autozone and got a generic piece, I cut the wire, installed it and the bike ran on 3 cylinders. I checked the plug and it fired (weakly). The wire didnt have a copper core, the original did. Do motorcycles need to have a specific type of spark plug wire?

Solid core is best, older cars(most new cars have no wires) dont use them because of the interference to radios & ecms. Other types of cores just have a different resistance(ohms per foot). I would think it should work for you, long as your making good contact with the center conductor.
