A J Foyt

A J takes on killer bees and gets his ass beat.

Said Foyt: ''I look like I had a fight with Mike Tyson and lost. Right now I'm on so much medication that I'm not feeling that great, so I'll take the doctors' advice to rest for the next couple days.''

Wednesday's attack was the second time the 83-year-old has disturbed beehives while working on his bulldozer. He sustained over 200 stings to his head alone in a 2005 bee attack.

I would have learned better after the first time.

I mowed over a Yellowjacket nest while on my Ford tractor a few years ago. I got a few stings, realized what was going on, shut off the engine and ran. Luckily I got away and snuck back later to retrieve the tractor.

More recently I was mowing and made a U-turn to make the next swath, and saw a swarm of Yellowjackets. I turned the tractor away and quit mowing in that area. I need to get back there and finish before the warm weather.

Last fall my son found an underground nest right were we needed to stack firewood. I tried to kill the nest for a week before I figured out to just run the garden hose over it for a couple hours. That did it.

As a young lad I helped with putting up hay, we used a side delivery rake and it would really rile the bumble bees. As we used two cylinder JD tractors, we'd pull the hand clutch and take off running until the bees settled down. Only got stung a few times.
