Does anyone use the UNI foam filters?
Does anyone use the UNI foam air filters? I have one and have a oiling question, namely, am I putting too much oil on the filter?
I applied it to both sides like the tech at the store said to do, he even told me what oil to use, it is green in color so I will know if I have all of it covered, but Im not sure how much to use. I think I may have used too much since I get a gasoline smell from the bike just after I start it, like it's running too rich. Should I only oil one side or both? Your help is greatly appreciated!

I'm using an Uni foam replacement filter. It doesn't take much oil to cover it all and the bottle of oil will last longer than your bike will. I think I used slightly less than a ping pong ball size amount of oil.

as long as you can still squeeze oil out of it, you have too much.

Are you still using the uni filter? I have the snorkle removed, carbs shimmed with 2 washers, slip-on exhaust and stock filter. Still a noob when it comes to the bike being too rich or too lean, can't tell. Really don't want to have to shell out money for re-jetting and worried that if I go to aftermarket filter it will lean out the bike too much, but like I said I don't even know if I am running Lean right now.

As long as you keep the airbox in, you will not be too lean with an after market drop in air filter. Your set up will be fine. |

I would think that the KN stuff is thinner and less tacky as foam filter oil. KN was design for cotton guaze filter media is the fibers are thinner and cover more surface area so the thinner oil used doesn't choke it. The foam filter is a whole lot more porous and the tacky oil gives more surface area for it to filter My take on it.

It works if it's all you've got, but foam filter oil is much thicker. |

I just picked up my uni filter and oil. Put it in but haven't taken it out yet. Hope its a good 15 dollar investment. Anyone that had one know if it helped out power at all? I have snorkel removed too

morning ride to work was great with new uni filter. I didn't think I would be able to tell a difference, but good sweet baby jesus I could! Definitly an increase in power in first and second gear as well as 6th at hywy speeds. I could really tell when I needed to punch it @60 mph to pass a truck, got to 75 mph a lot quicker. Great $15 investment
