Front brake light not working, help please.
Hey all,
Didn't really want to make a new thread but I found no info about this topic, checked the manual and it says go to an Authorised Kawasaki Dealer... Don't really want to do that .. so here I am asking the geniuses of Ninjette.org. Heres the story, my bike has been down on the right hand side, this may or may not have contributed to my front brake light not working. When I apply the front brake, the brake light does not work, thats the problem. I still have my rear brake light to warn people (I always use my rear brakes), so I've been living with that for the last month or two but I would like the functionality of my front brake light. So, if anyone knows how to adjust/fix/solve this problem of mine, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

short the wires that go to the brake switch and see if the rear brake light works. if it does, you have a switch problem. if it doesn't, you have a wiring problem. do you have a service manual? |

That diagram was one of the hardest things I've had to try read and figure out what it meant ... (give me a few more months and it'll be a breeze, just started my Mechanical Engineering course in Uni )
But yeah, "short the wires", I have no idea what that means. I do know my rear brake light works when I press the rear brakes, thats about it ... And I do have a service manual (thanks to you). I never knew it was going to be this hard, but if you, or anybody else could explain it in layman's terms that would be much appreciated. Sorry to be such a hassle mate.

Check your wires inside the front right side of the fairing. I had the same problem Saturday and that's what it turned out to be. I had loosened the fairing to install a headlight modulator and the turn signal wire connections came apart. A very simple fix.

Mike,
In the picture below, the front brake switch is item #7 and is located on the bottom of the front master cylinder (rectangular thing) on right handlebar. There are 2 wires attached to it. In your case, the 2 wires probably were disconnected when the bike went down. Check and see! If they are disconnected, then reconnect them. If the wires are still connected, then disconnect them and take an open paperclip and stick in each end of the 2 wires, thus connecting them together. Let us know your results. |

Jesus, and here I am over-thinking things, thinking that it was a big mission. Ends up the switches aren't connecting, bit hard trying to connect them though, but easy fix nonetheless.
EDIT: Got them connected, everything is perfect. Thanks heaps for the help and the patience

I'm about to wire a taillight modulator and ran into a bit of a problem.
Does anyone know which taillight wire does what? Is Red for brakes and Blue for taillight or the other way around? Can't tell from the diagram. - Strange thing is, on the overall diagram (pg. 333 of the maintainance manual, for those of you who got it) there are three wires going in. But on page 375 (same manual) there are only two wires: Red and Ground. |

oops lol, what I meant and what most people got was the front brake triggering the rear brake light.

hey, sorry to resurrect this thread, but I have the same problem and the previous owner laid it down on the right side as well...
I tried pressing them in and from the side / angles, and the brake light actually works. But I tried to take the wire connections out and push them in, thinking they were just loose, but no luck. It only works if I push it in, in certain angles. Is it a problem with the wiring or the brake switch? Should I just take the bike in? |

Godzilla, yes take it in.
And ask the mechanics to explain what they did, so you can take care of it next time....l
