&^*&( , I dumped my bike
I dumped my Ninja today near the end of a group ride around the Uvas Reservoir near south San Jose. We were pulling off the roadway onto a shoulder that had grit or sandy crap onto it. I applied the brakes a bit too hard and slid. I wrestled with it for a bit and almost recovered but fell over on the right as I came to a stop. I wasn't hurt at all and got up right away. We picked my bike up and I thought that I had escaped any damage but found that the base of the right turn signal stalk was broken.
This incident was 100% preventable; I was following a bit too close, then braked too hard for the slippery surface and then didn't react quickly enough to recover from the slide. Maintaining a slightly bigger space in front of me would have probably prevented this incident. Fortunately I suffered no injury and damage to the bike was minimal. The lesson learned is to always maintain your focus and to always give yourself the time needed to react to a hazard. |

Not big deal; just dust off and keep rolling.
I hope that no hard-saved gas was spilled in the incident.

Thanks! I didn't lose too much gas! I was riding my non-streamlined bike and a bit more peppy than usual. Sure was fun! Maybe I need a trackday to sharpen my skills

This is a lot like going to confession: I sinned but now that I got it off my chest I feel better.

Sorry Vic! I probably should have given some more notice that we were stopping although I'm not sure how.

I was gonna say the streamlined bike can tip over? Aww that sucks. If you want to brush up on some really useful street skills Brian bartlow's dirt track program I just did is awesome for pure confidence building.

thanks Alex and Cam. I was riding my other , nonstreamlined Ninja so the streamliner is still unscathed. The dirt tracking sounds great, I'll have to try it sometime. |

I was just reading through the unread thread titles in the crash forum and saw a thread started by "greenaero". My first thought was "Oh gawd! There must've been shards of plastic for miles!"
I'm glad to hear you and your bike are ok. Also nice to see your write-up about what you did wrong. I feel like it's better if it was your fault - it means that in the future you have the power to avoid the same thing happening. If it was an unavoidable/unforseable crash then well... that sucks! |

Thanks Akima, The worst thing hurt was my pride. But there is always something to share about a mishap so that hopefully others will avoid my error.
