ZZR250 vs 08-12 Ninja 250?
Hi everyone. I am looking for some input about the ZZR250. I have a chance to buy a 2006 model with 8300kms. It is mint. My wife actually owned a 2000 model but sold it after 3 years when we were expecting child #2. I didn't ride it much back then and honestly forget what it was like compared to our 2009 Ninja 250. Anyone on hear ride or own both? I am thinking about selling my supermotos and getting the ZZR250 so I can do longer trips with my son and wife. Here's some pics of the one I am looking at:

It's essentially the previous generation of the same bike: EX250H
In Canada it slots right between the EX250F and the EX250J, even though the frame and fairings are very different. From what I hear, the engine is the same as EX250F. |

From Wikipedia: "EX250-H - This model came to Canada as the Ninja 250R between 2000 and 2002, after which it received a new name: ZZR-250, in line with the -H model's name elsewhere in the world, where it had existed since 1992. This motorcycle has parts in common with the -F model, though it shares the same engine, albeit with different casings. It sports a lateral aluminum frame, a different fairing (designed to make it look sportier), larger 17-inch wheels, an adjustable rear shock absorber, adjustable brake and clutch levers, a smaller drive sprocket, computer-controlled timing advance, and a revised electrical system. It also had a smaller carburetor, & slightly different compression ratio, both of which were designed for quicker revving and slightly higher top end power. However, these upgrades came at a 6kg weight gain." - Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_Ninja_250R
Ninja-Wiki - Link: http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/What_ab..._it_compare%3F From what I'd read the German Version came with 36 HP at the crank (there a kit was sold to lower the power-output from 36 hp to 34 hp) and from New Zealand we can read that the hp was 40 at the crank http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/mod...zr250%2002.htm |

I'm away with work but will be taking a look at it in 2-3 weeks. If I like what I see, I will pick it up if the price is right. My son will be riding a 250 next year so having a 2nd one to ride with him will be fun.

I mean, if nothing else, it's basically a pregen that can accept 17" tires. Can't be all bad, can it?!?! if she likes it better than the '08-'12, I see no way how you lose by buying it.

I know what the bike is. I had one in my garage for 3 years. Problem is I didn't ride it much and forget how it compares to my 09 250. Funny thing is my wife hates the 09 250 and prefers the 03 ZX-6R. I will probably pick it up if it is still available in 2-3 weeks time. I am looking for input from those who own/owned both the ZZR and 08-12 250, although I think that is a rare breed.

Ah! That aluminum spar frame.... that was the 'bastardized' 250 ninja, rattle canned black, that dude was posting from craigslist a week or two ago... i was totally mystified by that.
By the looks of it, its a lot more sport-geared. Probably better suspension and brakes too. Might be a lighter frame. Parts availablity might not be as good, I dunno the canada market. Too bad we don't have it here, would make a sweet track bike already set up with 17's and lighter (maybe?) |

I've got an 2001 ZZR 250 that is my dailly mule and trip bike. I'm actually doing a Cannonball 500 (800 kms in 12 hours) next Sunday with it.
The pregen ZZR offers more wind protection with it's fairings and the seating position is a little more upright which is great if you want to do some touring. You can do everything the same on both bikes, but my opinion is that the ZZR offers slightly more "comfort" for longer rides. |

Sorry, I know this is resurrecting an old thread, but I am having a really hard time finding (reasonable) pre-2008 Ninja 250 fairings. |
