For those who ride in LBC area
If you ride in lbc or know people who do make sure you wear dot helms and check exaust noise. Just like Huntington Beach they are tired of squids ripping through so they are pulling over just about anything on two wheels with a few cops carrying noise meters to check for exhausts that are two loud.

Wonder if the cops actually know how to properly administer the sound test. Fighting that ticket and winning would be a joke. I'm a step away from registering my bike out-of-state because of crap like this and the pending legislation on 2011+ bikes. What's worse is that the whole reason for the noise problems are those morons on harleys with their stupid straight pipe exhausts. Just from what I see riding my bike, I probably see at least 10 Harleys to every sportbike while I'm out riding. We're not the problem. Yea my bike is loud above 9k RPM, but harleys are loud at anything above idle.

Are they stopping the cars and trucks with loud pipes as well or just targeting the bikes?

well thanks to the swanky calabasses residents, they might ban loud pipes all together pretty soon.

yep, and it still doesn't work as people still ride with obnoxiously loud exhausts. the smarter ones learn, the others ride around oblivious of the damage they do by "exercising their right" to ride what they want.
The last thing you want to do is give a LEO an obvious reason/justification for pulling you over. it starts small like this and soon other counties, cities, states will follow suit. The best solution is for riders to police themselves, but sadly not enough speak out against the effects of what a loud exhaust will do. and it's not just Harleys... it's idiots on all types of bikes that make it bad for all the rest. |

^^^ Since we are on the subject of loud pipes.
KKim, do you consider a bike with a "quiet core" to be loud? I have one on my bike and was interested in your thoughts on this. |

It is louder than a stock exhaust, but it's the quietest of all the aftermarket exhausts available.
At full song, it can get quite loud, but knowing how the general public is sensitive to noise pollution and the damage it can cause of their perception of all motorcyclists, I granny shift the bike when in town and don't go hot rodding at WFO when I know it will impact others. I really feel (and this is only my opinion) that the quiet core muffler option would not be described as "obnoxious". Ride sensibly when around the non riding public and our sport will live for generations to come. Ride like an asshole and... well, you can see by this thread what will happen. All it takes is for a loud motorcycle to piss off someone in an influential position and the downward spiral begins. |
