Suzuki Endurance Racing Team wins FIM World Endurance Championship

The Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) clinched the FIM World Endurance championship with a win at the 8 Hours of Doha race in QatarThe French-based Suzuki Endurance Racing Team clinched the 2010 FIM World Endurance Championship after taking victory at the final round in Qatar.

The SERT team consisting of Sylvain Guintoli (the WSBK rider brought in specifically for this event), Vincent Philippe and Freddy Foray took the lead of the 8 Hours of Doha from the start aboard their GSX-R1000 and maintained a pace that couldn’t be matched by the other teams, clinching victory after eight hours with 231 laps run, four laps ahead of runner-up Yamaha Austria Racing Team.

At the Le Mans-style start (where riders lined up on one side of track run to their bikes on the other side being held by a team member with a dead engine), SERT grabbed the holeshot from pole position winners BMP Elf 99 and the battle between the two teams raged hour-after-hour. At the halfway stage, SERT and the BMW-mounted BMP squad were separated by less than a minute, with both on the same lap after 116 laps; third place at the four-hour mark was held by Yamaha Austria Racing Team on 114 laps, with Honda's RMT 21 Racing Team a further 43 seconds adrift.
