Nothing gets me more excited than a good curvy road... think I'm coming down with something.

Can't believe that much fun was just a little further down the road...

My friend and I got up to Louisa and went right. I WENT THE WRONG DIRECTION. ITS ALL STRAIGHT THAT WAY.

Also, what dates are we talkin? Saturday is looking to be the best day... so Oct 15 or 22?

Oh, and would it be too much if I brought along a friend?

We're not yet gonna do the 211 - 33 ride (we'll see how it goes with the skyline 1st).

The skyline drive "stroll" is just a "stroll" We'll start from the top of skyline the "front royal side" We can all meet up @ sheetz in haymarket(or if you're closer to front royal we'll meet you there.). The speed limit for skyline is 35mph this is gonna be a ride your own ride thing, take your time to test out the waters. I also want to do this ride to see if we can set-up more group rides in the future

I could request off but I think we have tons of events planned. I can't request off until I know we are going though. I can't afford to miss a day of work and end up having the gr fall through.

As soon as Live2ride knows, I'll know what day to take off too. Consider me committed to this group ride.

Also, my friend has a bandit 600 from 1996 I think. He's ATGATT and on the cautious side, so he certainly wouldn't treat this like a race and zoom ahead. That's why I like riding with him... he's civil on the road and it keeps me out of trouble.

I am glad to see this thread is still alive. There are a lot of 250s in the area. I would love to see group ride with many of them.

I will be selling mine soon. Long story... But if you have the ride before it's gone, I will join in.

As far as routes go, Skyline is a nice scenic ride. Just be sure to bring $10 for entry. Taking back roads over there is always a blast. Rt33 is awesome. I am going next week. I agree that it isn't for beginner. 211 is ok if you go the speed limit. Going above it will get you in trouble if you don't have a lit of experience.

I will peek in to the thread over the few weeks to see what's up.

@hoodadooda yeah, we're just waiting for livetoride I hope he can get off that day. and that's good to hear that your friend is not one oh those guys with over flowing testosterone in their body hahaha and also I think almost all of us who's gonna go to this ride "stroll" are beginner bikers (correct me if I'm wrong :P). If he's been riding for quite some time that'll be awesome if he can help us out.

gogoKawi! If you can help us out to make this group ride happen that'll be really really awesome!

The plan is to start it slow, test the waters out, form a group of people who loves to ride and then hit other much more technical roads

(But to be honest I just want to ride and meet other awesome people who share the same passion I have for bikes hehe) If you can come to our first group ride the "skyline drive stroll" that'll be really awesome

the tentative date for it is Oct 15 or Oct 22

If it isn't ballin' cold by then, I'll see if I can make it out as well. I should be off both of those days. It's a bit of a trip up to the skyline, but it's been a few years since I've gone, and never in the fall.

@kaiserz My friend has only been riding for 5 or 6 months, but he's getting close to putting on 4k miles on his Bandit. I've been riding since I got the ninja in May of '09 and only have 7k miles!

I know I know. That is not a lot of miles for as long as I've had the bike, but I'm working on it!
Almost 2k of those were spent in downtown Richmond commuting to VCU. The rest are mostly commuting to J Sarge and work. Both of which are less than 5 minutes away. Maybe 3k of those miles were spent on riding for pleasure.

I spent the most time out on leisure rides this past summer than the other two combined probably...

I was up there in Skyline Dr. last Friday and it was 5-10 degrees colder so dress appropriately. I saw many bikers too.

Now is a popular time to hit Skyline with the leaves changing. So expect to see a decent amount of cars and motorcycles. If you aren't planning on riding at a quick pace, the ride should be pretty chill. Just keep in mind that more vehicles on Skyline means more stopping.

I haven't heard from james yet. But so far I can do the ride. I just need to change my oil first and fix somestuff, right now I'm an 80/20 on the ride

My vote is for the 22nd. It'll be easier to take that date off since it's a little further down the road than the 15th. Same vote from my friend with the bandit if his vote counts...

If we go with the 15th though... my friend won't be joining us due to work and I may/may not have to work some magic with the schedule at work.

As for the skyline drive ride, honestly it'll depend on how things have been that week with work, show schedule, and classes, so I really can't give a definite answer but more than likely I will not be able to come this time.

and the 15th I was invited to a track day...but it's not looking too promising...so I'm not sure

She's off the 22nd but with kids and everything I have to time everything. My 7 yr old daughter has soccer in the morning. What time are you thinking of meeting up?

I'd prefer the 15th, but might be able to massage my schedule for the 22nd if that's the day for everyone else, which it's looking to be.

This is the address to a Wawa in Frederick, at the north end of rt351 (the blue line in the loop Kaiserz outlined) We could take that south and jump on 17 from the southern end and ride north. Also, it'll allow us to fuel up if need be and warm up on the sweepers down 351 before hitting the twisties on 17.

I hope your track day works out for you though. I may be looking into doing a track day with team pro motion next year at NJMP.

I am 50/50. So what is the route? I think many people live in Virginia but we are meeting in Maryland? Unless this is the start of the route, it should be a centralized location for most people, like some place in Va.

It'll be easier to take that date off since it's a little further down the road than the 15th. Same vote from my friend with the bandit if his vote counts... If we go with the 15th though... my friend won't be joining us due to work and I may/may not have to work some magic with the schedule at work.

Also, it'll allow us to fuel up if need be and warm up on the sweepers down 351 before hitting the twisties on 17. I hope your track day works out for you though. I may be looking into doing a track day with team pro motion next year at NJMP.

I think many people live in Virginia but we are meeting in Maryland? Unless this is the start of the route, it should be a centralized location for most people, like some place in Va.
