I'd do this if I ever went to ROC in st. louis
they impounded bikes from a parking lot if the bike was deemed to be warm...

not valid probable cause at all.

I've parked a bike in a motel room once or twice myself when staying in an area of shady repute.

What's the terrible reasoning behind this? Are they assuming you were recently driving drunk?

I've slept at but two or three cheap scary motels but never put the bike in. Do you guys do this every time you go to a motel?

I've never gone on a trip that required me to put my bike in such a situation. I will someday and when I do I'll do this. It should be fine at deals gap w/my xena alarm though.

The reasoning behind it at the time was that they followed a small group of runners to said hotel and because they couldn't prove who was part of said group they illegally seized about a dozen bikes because the engines/exhaust were warm.

video proves bullshit

ride of the century (ROC) basically ends up being bikers (mostly stunters) vs cops.. I think someone actually died last year... there are plenty of normal, law abiding riders as well, but once someone does something stupid the cops go after the whole group. they impound a ton of bikes, make a bunch of arrests, etc.. one of the videos I was watching had cops in cars trying to pull maneuvers on bikers to take them down..

there is wrong on both sides.. many bikers break laws, but the cops spend a lot of time harrassing them too.. the whole event has sorta become a "screw you" to the cops of stl..

just google st. louis ride of the century, or look it up on youtube..

Yea, basically the entire event is a bunch of bikers saying "F*CK THIS ****! F*CK THE POLICE!"

here's a good edit from the 2013 event, as you can imagine the citizens and officers of st. louis get a little pissed about the whole thing.

it doesn't start that way.. it just gets a little out of hand because there are a lot of stunter types that attend, and they'll get harrassed by the cops and then it turns ugly..

I've heard both sides of the story, I have a lot of friends that have gone (since I'm only about 2hrs away) and said the ride was just a large group ride for the majority of the event, but it's best to start heading home when things start turning sour..

the cops say the riders are the problem, the riders say the cops are the problem.. idiots and wrong-doers on both sides imo..

From a completely objective standpoint, the stunters are a bit out of line and I believe that's what makes everything start escalating. That said once emotions start running both sides get out of line. It's really entertaining to watch online but I have no intention of ever attending the event.

I agree with you 100%.. but what you see on youtube are the stunts and crazy crap people are doing all compiled together, you don't see the whole ride which is an all day event and people are just riding together in a large group.. I'll probably go at some point, but not if it keeps getting worse every year like it has been..

More or less the stupid **** gets done all the time, granted each individual is not doing it all the time there is almost always at least one person doing something stupid somewhere in the massive group. Goes along with the size of the group a bit.

Jesus, I was getting sweaty palms just watching that cut-up. Those stunters, and the fools riding right behind them, are crazy!

Is this SL or EAST Saint Louis? They could ride in the ESL rat hole and not be harassed since they last time I rode through there many cops were laid off due to the city doing so poorly revenue wise.

That's why I don't want to go on any of those super large group rides. On one hand, it seems kinda cool to get to be around so many bikers at once, but on the other hand, it tends to be squids galore and I'd rather stay away from that.

I did it in December 2008 as I crossed the country on my new CP Blue Ninjette. Even if I could get to my destination or back to my origin, I had no backup vehicle. It was simply too much to risk losing.

The stunters make me embarrassed to say I live in St Louis. We don't have any real twisties here, so we get stunters instead.
