2009 OTD Pricing? Ripoff?
Hey everyone. I need your wisdom. I live in Federal Way WA back home and I am here for the summer. I emailed a few local dealerships for pricing and one replied in two hours! Now I know I should take into account now is the riding season, the popularity of the ninja yada yada yada. The gentleman said he had a couple black 09 models left but not many in stock for the whole. What I want to know is how would you feel about being quoted $5147.40??? He seemed to be honest and offered discounts on parts and gear during the same day as my purchase but this just seems borderline too much. I'm awaiting the breakdown of what fees are tacked on. Tax here would be just south of $400 and I'd imagine setup fees would be included but that still leaves several hundred that he could be ripping me off for silly fees.
Of course I am going to poke around and see how low I can get seeing as it is the prime riding season so pricing will be higher. What are your feelings, thoughts and/or concerns? If any fellow WA riders in the area can chime in that would be great. Also anyone that has purchased a 250 since Feb. please provide your location and breakdown of OTD pricing. Should I wait a few months for the 'winter' season and look at the 10' models or bite the bullet and get a 09' now at the 'best' price possible. Thanks! |

That seems high to me too. I paid $6636 out the door but that included some accessories including lowering links and seat cowl. I also paid close to 10% tax because I bought it in San Francisco. Come to think of it, I paid too much too. Oh well.

I bought my 2008 here in Canada, out the door with all taxes and such, for about 4000 US dollars a year. Granted things have gone up a bit since then, but not that much. I don't think these bikes are as hotly in demand as last year, so I can't see paying more than the low to mid-4000s.

I would imagine that anything north of $4800 without any extras thrown in is a little steep. But you know what someone WILL pay those prices so why should the stealerships come down? Time to play the waiting game

Found this site after I bought my bike. For $15 you can get Dealer invoice.
Dealer invoice is the price a dealer pays the manufacturer for a new vehicle. By knowing what the actual dealer cost is for a new ATV, motorcycle, or personal watercraft, a smart buyer can often save hundreds or even thousands of dollars when buying a new machine. http://www.cyclebuy.com/invoice.htm Maybe this will help you get a better price. |

i went to 3 dealerships that weekend and had trouble getting anything less than that. this was in southern cali. |

kkim yes buying a used 08 or 09 is an option. Just waiting to hear back from dealerships I emailed yesterday. Not in a hurry by any means. I might have to check out the invoice as well. Thanks for the suggestions!

I live in Fort Wayne IN. I did get it thru a dealership. I did not go thru the Kawaski program. There program is very similar to a credit card, and the intrest goes up to 15% after two years. To be honest, I do not remember which bank I am going thru. It was a special deal they offered the dealership. There is no early pay off fees, interest is 4.3% for 60 months. My payment is $83 per month. I do plan on paying it off in about two years though. I purchased the bike three weeks ago, with only two miles on it. It know has over 500 miles on it.

I got my '09 for a little less than $4100 OTD and 50% off a jacket. I'm paying it by Kawi's payment plan through HSBC. Its 6% interest for the first 2 years, then it skyrockets. I'll have it payed off by then though...

it's better off getting a loan from the bank than to go thru their program.
try capitalone. they offer me 3.98 % up to $10,000 for a new bike but i found a used bike and paid with cash. i think they also have offer for used bike but the rate may be higher. i'm not too sure on this. |

I actually did buy mine on the HSBC Kawi card - 6 months no interest no payments meant that I could keep my $4000 in the bank and earn a little money on it before I paid the bike off. |

After striking out a few times trying to pick up an '08, I picked up a Red '09 for $3999 ($4049 OTD after a $50 "documentation" fee). Like others have suggested, keep looking around. I checked several dealers before finding the shop I ultimately bought it from, and most had $240-500 worth of markup on the '09 250r's.
The shop I bought it from is roughly an hour away, roughly the same distance as all the others I looked at. There's a motorcycle dealer about a half mile from my house, but they turned in all their Kawasaki inventory a couple weeks before I decided to buy new (they no longer sell Kawasaki). |

Labrador is not exactly the motorcycle capital of Eastern Canada but there is a Kawasaki dealer here thank goodness. I got my 250 for $CAD5300 OTD or about $CAD4700 before taxes etc. I would guess that converts to 4,100 $US. The price is not a great deal but there's a hefty shipping charge to bring things in here.

I think it will all work out. There's no way I'm going to settle and be ashamed of posting how much I payed haha. I appreciate all the advice.
What fees like doc., licensing, freight, setup, assembly are required? I have a feeling it is up to the dealers what they add in the markup. Seems like dealers close by me are going the extra mile and adding all of em |

Yes keep shopping around, my personal experience was I purchased my 08 ninja for around $3800. Definitely check Craigslist in the area, I've been seeing a few around the 4k range (a bit high even for used). Good luck !

The freight, assembly and set up total 574.00 for this bike. So that is like $4573 right there off the bat and tax would bring it to about $4900. That's not exact but already I'm up there for OTD. Not sure where the other 200 accounts for. Maybe I should make the drive and talk to them in person but so far I'm looking elsewhere. |

you can't expect the salemen to give the best price to everyone who asks on the internet. Get your ass down there and bargain with them. Once they see you're serious, the true pricing will start to emerge. This is how most deals are made... be it motorcycles or cars.

One thing thats good news. You will be able to deduct all of the sales tax on almost all new vehicles purchased this year.

Nickds7 so from what I understand is if a buy a car/motorcycle/truck from now till Jan 2010 and I make less than like 150k a year and the bike or vehicle is less than like 50k then I can get the sales tax I paid back when I do my taxes? So if I buy my Ninja Two Fiddy new this fall then when I do taxes next year I will be good to go?
