'86 Front End Swap?

Hey y'all. I'm new around here. I'm helping a friend completely rebuild an '86 ninjette. It wasn't terribly well cared for by the previous owner (who thought pink duct tape was sufficient for repairing wiring) and the result is a whole lot of rust, among other things.

The inner fork tubes are pretty well rusted and I'm looking for options for repairing/replacing them. Rechroming is somewhat expensive, as are new parts. One thing I'm considering is finding the front end from an '88-'07 and swapping the whole thing out. This would also fix the problem of the bent clip-on that we can't seem to find a replacement for.

Has anyone ever done this? Is it even possible? I could be wrong, but I think they may have totally different steering head bearings.

IDK about hte steering head bearings, but if you swap the entire fornt end, you'll need to do the gauges too, since the speedo gear on the 86/87 was on the other side.

The plated parts on the 86-87 250 are built to a price point, back then a new 86 250 cost $2,200. None will hold up if survive till now. Mine fork tubes were rusted and I had it hardchrome for $120 13+ years ago.

Like Bob said speedo drive location will be your issue unless you swap the whole front end. If you are going down the swaping the front end, I could skip the 88-07 250's as it still use 16" rims and find yourself a 94 or newer EX500 front end as it was updated to 17" rims already.
