Sunrise/Sunset Thread

This idea is stolen from another forum.

Because we have a nice spread of locations I thought it would be neat to have a picture thread dedicated to pictures taken of Sunrise or Sunset.

You are more than welcome to post as many pictures of each as you would like, no limit. Please keep it to those two topics though! Please make sure they are your pictures!

To start... here is one I took today, no tripod so its a little blury

Christmas day 2008

thanks Sunny - I was mostly playing with my new camera and trying to show someone the snow from Monday that was left on my driveway, as they were planning to visit - love the features on the camera - makes night shots great!

Hehe, you guys got some great pics, but you know that the horizon line should be level right? If you have photoshop its really easy to fix. Use the ruler tool, draw a line across the horizon. Then click 'Image' then 'Rotate Canvas' then 'Arbitrary' and clock 'ok' it will auto level your horizon lines. Nothing will ruin a great sunset/sunrise pic like a totally off wack horizon line ;P

You read my mind when I saw my pic posted, so I rotated it. Not quite as simple using GIMP as Photoshop, but almost as easy (you just have to crop afterwards).

That might be true if you live somewhere totally flat - but if you live in the mountains where the land is steeply sloped, that's not so true....

Here's a sunset from Sanibel Island, FL:

2 Sunrise pics from Clifton, VA:

This one isnt a very good sunset picture, but it was taken while stranded on the side of the road. I had no gas and noche_caliente had a dead battery!

The first 3 was during a little dust storm, reason that it is the color that it is, last 2 was during a more normal time. I'm not sure of the time of year any of these were taken.

NB

edit: These were around mid Nov to mid Dec.

and one more. This isn't exactly a sunset. That sorta kinda bright spot just above the light tower, that is the sun. This was taken mid afternoon during one of Iraq's famous dust storms, a mild one.

NB

edit: This was mid April, just after we got extended for 90 days. Still 5 months to go.

Question to the group: I have used pics found in the past on my computer as the desktop and screen saver. Would anybody mind if I used the ones on here for that? I wouldn't use them for any other purpose.

I can't imagine that anyone who posted their pics up here for public viewing would have a problem with you using them for personal use.

Hey Chris... I know some people have reasons for it but I am curious... Why do you have the date stamp on your photo?

Looking at all these pictures, It is difficult to comprehend that this is a motorcycle forum. There is some real talent in this group. No more motorcycle goodies for me for a while--quite a while. Ordered a Pentax Digital SLR. The Owner`s Manual is literally a book. I will also need to get a new computer. Digital photography with Windows 98 is like trying to run a Ninja on fuel oil.
