Is this normal?

My left hand controls hit the tank at full lock. Everything looks straight on the front end, but i know it's been down once or twice in the past and figured maybe the left bar was just slightly bent. So when I replaced the stock bars and risers with woodcrafts, I was surprised to see that it still hits at full lock with the bars at the inner most position. Is there something I'm missing or is this normal?

It's not normal, mine clears just right. The previous owner of my bike dropped it and bent the right bar, so I replaced them with Woodcraft clip-ons too.

Although it took me a couple tries to find the perfection position, I didn't have to tilt the bars to the inner most position to get them to clear.

Maybe you can snap a couple pics and post them up?

Yeah I can do that some time tomorrow. And I had to push the left bar out from the inner-most position about 1/3 of the way through the adjustment range for the control not to hit. Not the end of the world, but I do want it to be right.

Also, my bike is a pregen so the front end and clip-ons are a little different from yours.

My bars don't hit the tank on either side. The clutch lever has been "customized" by a low side, but the bars are still good.

A brand new, unbent handlebar should never hit the tank. It's a close fit for sure, but there's clearance. Maybe your steering lock got bent and is allowing the triple tree to rotate further than it should. I'm assuming it's not your gas tank being on worng, since the plastics would never line up properly if it was.

if your bars look straight, check your triples. the steering lock is on the bottom triple. if your forks are twisted in the triples (easy to do if it goes down) the top triple will extend further to one side and it will hit the tank. you can usually just loosen everything up and straighten them

I don't have any plastics, but yeah I see what you mean. My old tank actually had a pretty significant dent from the controls smacking it. I replaced that since it was all rotted out.

Yeah that's probably what happened. I'll give it a shot. Just didn't want to take that apart before knowing it wasn't normal to hit at full lock.

I have an 07 pregen with woodcraft risers and have to have them swept all the way back and they don't touch the tank but my clutch and brake levers just touch the gauge console. lock to lock.

the bars should be just a few mm from the tank. To get the levers to clear, try tilting them forward a bit. They should fit in there.

The cool thing is that you don't need to take it apart. Just loosen the 4 bolts holding the forks in and give her a good hard wiggle. If the forks are twisted i nthe clamps at all, that will straighten them out. It helps to have a friend in front of the bike too.
