Runs better on reserve???

Okay, so I've been working on the rejet, and still get hesitation in mid range. But last nites weather was so nice, and I had it running the best that it would without doing some other projects, so I went for a ride. Silly me, not paying attention, I ran out of gas. So I flip it to reserve, and most of the hesitation is gone. I'm baffled. I have an in line filter on the gas line, and its pulling gas in normal and reserve without much of an issue. So can anyone offer an explanation as to why it would run smoother in reserve, and less so in normal?

The straw leading to the gas for normal mode is clogged a bit?

So would that cause the float bowls not to fill as quickly as they should? Thats the only reason I can think of. WOT pulls just as hard, no matter the mode...

Not sure, but the only thing you are changing when you switch to reserve, is which straw you are sucking gas through

Fuel flow problems would be present no matter which setting you have on the petcock, and would get worse as RPMs increase.

Well I'm thinking it's a petcock issue. Had oil blowing out of the breather, so I think the petcock is leaky. Would explain why I ran out of gas before I thot I should have. So the plan is to get the stuff to drain the tank, check the petcock, and possibly replace. And then another full oil change! Yay......

It could also be a blockage or leak in the vacuum line that switches on fuel flow in the regular position, although if that was the case one would expect the flow to be better in the prime position. Might be time to remove the petcock from the tank and check the little filter screen.

Gonna grab a gas can tonite and start the process. See if the petcock needs replacing or a cleaning. There should be a sock filter on the main straw, correct?
